VANDERBILT NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Vanderbilt (41-6) is ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll after winning eight consecutive games and 22 of its last 24.
The Commodores only played two games last week at South Carolina which Vanderbilt won. Game three of the series was rained out. Vanderbilt is first in the Southeastern Conference with a 21-2 record. Teams ranked 2-9 in last week’s poll remained the same this week.
Poll Notes: Several other teams have been hot. Sam Houston St. has won nine straight and leads the Southland Conference with a 15-6 record while Troy has captured 11 of its last 12. In key series over the past weekend, Louisiana St. swept a 3-game series at home against Florida, Florida St. swept three from Central Florida, Arizona St. lost two of three at home to Stanford, Arkansas won two of three against Kentucky, Arizona lost two of three at home to Washington and lost another earlier in the week to Arizona St., and Mississippi St. swept a 3-game series at home against Alabama. Three teams fell out of the top 30 this week in Florida (4 straight losses), Arizona (1-3 last week) and Central Florida (1-3). New to the poll is Troy (35-12), Sam Houston St. (31-17), and Kansas St. (34-15, tied for first in the Big 12 Conference at 11-7).

LOUISVILLE SLUGGER NATIONAL PLAYERS OF WEEK
• RHP Mark Leiter, Jr., New Jersey Institute of Technology: Leiter struck out 20 Chicago State batters over nine innings during a 5-3 win. His 20 strikeouts were the most nationally in a 2013 NCAA Division I game and the most in NJIT history. He fanned at least two in every inning but the first when he struck out one. He struck out the side in the second, eighth and ninth innings and got his last eight outs via the strikeout. Leiter’s previous career-high for strikeouts was 14 against Chicago St. in 2011.
• RHP Brian Ernst, East Stroudsburg: Ernst set a school record with 15 strikeouts in a 2-0 win over Millersville in a complete game effort. He only allowed three hits and didn’t issue a walk. It marked his fourth straight game with double digit strikeouts. He has 69 strikeouts in 46 2/3 innings this season.
• 3B Bobby Lecount, New Mexico St.: Lecount hit .556 (5-for-9) with 3 homers, 10 RBI and 6 runs scored during a 3-game series against San Jose St. He walked four times with a 1.556 slugging percentage and a .692 on-base percentage and didn’t make an error at third base.
