LOUISIANA ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Louisiana St. (52-9) is ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll after winning the Southeastern Conference tournament with a 5-4, 11-inning victory over Vanderbilt.
This marks the second time this season LSU has been ranked No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball poll. In early April, the Tigers posted a 30-2 record and were the top team in the USA.
The Commodores, ranked No. 1 for the previous four polls, slipped to second after the extra inning loss. Vanderbilt, which also lost to Texas A&M in the tournament, won the SEC regular-season title with a 26-3 record while LSU was second at 23-7.
Poll Notes: Several other teams have been hot. Rice has won nine straight while Cal. St. Fullerton has posted seven consecutive wins. North Carolina and Oklahoma have captured five in a row. Virginia Tech. has won eight of its last nine, and Cal. Poly six of its last seven. Three teams fell out of the top 30 this week in Seton Hall (1-2 last week), Campbell (3-1) and Western Carolina (1-2). New to the poll is Virginia Tech., Oklahoma, and San Diego.
The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

LOUISVILLE SLUGGER NATIONAL PLAYERS OF WEEK
• 3B Tyler France, San Diego St.: France went 16-for-21 over 6 games during the Mountain West Conference tournament. His 16 hits were a tournament record as he finished with 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 8 RBI and 9 runs scored. His slugging percentage for the week was 1.238 as he was named the Mountain West Conference tournament MVP.
• RHP Nick Bruns, Bowling Green St.: Bruns didn’t allow a run in 12 1/3 innings during the Mid-American Conference tournament as he posted a 2-0 record with 1 save. He struck out 8 and surrendered just 5 hits. In the championship game, Bruns threw a complete game shutout against Ball State.
• LHP Cody Faulkner, Northwood: Faulkner tossed the fourth no-hitter in the 57-year history of the NAIA World Series during a 1-0 win over Sterling. He struck out 1 and walked 2 in the 9 inning complete game. He had not gone deeper than 7 innings in a game prior to this outing in 2013.
• LHP Chase Brookshire, Belmont: Brookshire struck out 14 Jacksonville St. batters during a 9-inning, 6-3 complete game victory. He gave up five hits and only walked one batter.
