NORTH CAROLINA NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of North Carolina (24-1) is ranked No. 1 for the seventh consecutive week in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll.
The Tar Heels, winners of eight straight, beat VirginiaCommonwealth, Winthrop and Clemson in three games last week.
North Carolina is averaging 9 runs per game and has a 1.77 team ERA with 203 strikeouts in 25 games.
Poll Notes: Several other teams have also been hot. Indiana has won 15 in a row while Louisiana St. and Pittsburgh have won eight in a row. Oregon has won seven consecutive while Vanderbilt has won six straight.
In key series over the past weekend, Oregon St. lost two of three at San Diego, Florida St. lost two of three at Virginia Tech., Virginia won two of three against Miami (Fla.), UCLA lost two of three at Arizona St., Arkansas beat Mississippi St. two of three, South Carolina swept a 3-game series against Texas A&M, Florida beat Mississippi two of three, Louisville swept a 3-game series against Notre Dame, and Oklahoma St. took two of three from Texas.
Three teams fell out of the top 30 in U.C. Irvine (1-3 last week), South Alabama (1-3), and Campbell (2-2). New to the poll is Alabama (18-11, 7-2 in the Southeastern Conference), San Diego (18-10), and Florida Atlantic (19-9, 7-2 Sun Belt Conference, swept 3-game series against South Alabama).
The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

LOUISVILLE SLUGGER NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
• RF Kevin Brown, Bryant: Brown knocked in 14 runs over 5 games as he went 8-for-12 at the plate with 3 home runs, a triple, a double, 11 walks, 11 runs scored and 7 stolen bases. He had an .800 on-base percentage and 1.583 slugging percentage.
• 1B Mason Katz, Louisiana St.: Katz was 11-for-18 over four games with 3 homers, one triple, one double and 12 RBI with 5 runs scored. On the season, he is hitting .419 with 13 homers and 49 RBI.
• LHP Alex Godzak, Canisius: Godzak threw seven no-hit innings as part of the first NCAA Division I, 9-inning no-hitter in program history during an 8-0 win over Iona. At one point, he retired 20 consecutive batters and struck out six overall. Even though he had a no-hitter through seven innings, Rohn Pierce and Jon Fitzsimmons finished out the game in the final two innings to preserve the first no-hitter by a Canisius team since 1993.
• LHP Corey Littrell, Kentucky: Littrell struck out 12 batters over seven shutout innings during a 5-0 win over Georgia. He allowed only three singles and walked two.
