ST MARY’S NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — St. Mary’s Prep (Orchard Lake, MI) is ranked No. 1 for the sixth straight Collegiate Baseball National High School Poll presented by Diamond Pro.
The Eaglets (15-0) have outscored opponents, 158-20 and feature a .378 team batting average with 27 home runs. The pitching staff has a team ERA of 0.96 with 143 strikeouts in 88 innings.
Brock Porter threw a no-hitter against Brother Rice (Bloomfield Hills, MI), striking out 11 and walking one.
Nola Schubart hit a two out, three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tied against St. Ignatius and propel St. Mary’s to a 4-1 win.
St. Mary’s recently picked up wins against four teams from Ohio as they beat St. Ignatius, 4-1, Olentangy Orange, 11-1, Upper Arlington, 9-2 and Grove City, 7-1.
No. 2 Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, FL) is 21-2, winning 13 in a row. In its last four games, Chris Arroyo hit four home runs while Roman Anthony hit two homers against West Boca and one against Western. Christian Rodriguez hit two homers against West Boca.
Over the past five games, the Eagles have outscored opponents, 58-13 with the team batting average over .400.
No. 3 Sumrall (MS) has rolled to a 27-0 record this season that includes 8 shutouts and 8 games where the Bobcats have allowed opponents just one run.
To end the regular season, the Bobcats beat Purvis, 3-0 and 10-1, Magee, 11-0, Oak Grove, 4-2 and Moss Point, 12-1 and 13-0. They will face Mendenhall in the first game of the playoffs.
No. 4 Barbe (Lake Charles, LA) finished its regular season 32-2 and won its 26th district championships. The state playoffs begin this week.
In the last five games, the pitching staff has allowed 7 hits, no runs and struck out 39 batters. All five games were shutouts.
No. 5 Rockwall-Heath (Rockwall, TX) is 24-3 and 10-0 in district play. They remain No. 1 in the Texas 6A polls.
No. 6 Orange Lutheran (Orange, CA) has posted a 21-4 record and recently went 3-1 at the Boras Classic South tournament.
During the four Boras tournament games, Casey Borba hit .500 with 2 home runs, 11 RBI and 4 runs scored. Karson Bowen batted .600 with two doubles, one homer, 4 RBI and 8 runs scored.
No. 7 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) is 27-1 and has won its last 16 games.
Top hitters include Easton Shelton (.412, 6 2B, 3 3B, 11 HR, 37 RBI), Justin Crawford (.463, 11 2B, 5 3B, 4 HR, 28 RBI) and Maddox Riske (.468, 9 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 29 RBI).
Leading the pitching staff are Lucas Boesen (7-1, 1.91 ERA, 15 BB, 47 K, 36.2 IP) and Tyler Avery (7-0, 2.14 ERA, 13 BB, 38 K, 36 IP).
New to the poll at No. 8 is Villa Park (CA) with a 24-2 record. The Spartans won the Boras Classic South, defeating JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, CA), 11-3. They went through the tournament undefeated.
No. 9 Providence (Charlotte, NC) remains undefeated this season with an 21-0 record. They recently won the Hanahan Invitational in Charleston, SC, going 3-0.
Eli Jerzembeck tossed a completed game 6-0 victory over St. Edwards (OH). He struck out 18.
Michael Forret threw 6 innings and struck out 10 in a 3-1 win over Ocean Lake (VA). Collin McDougal picked up the save and belted a two-run homer in the game.
No. 10 Tompkins (Katy, TX) has a 23-1 record and is 9-1 in district play with two district games left in the regular season.
No. 11 Calvary Christian (Clearwater, FL) posted a 22-1 record and recently beat Berkeley Prep (Tampa), 4-1 and 5-2 and Venice (FL), 9-0 and 3-1.
No. 12 Central Martinsburg (Martinsburg, PA) started the season 8-0 and have outscored opponents, 100-8.
No. 13 The First Academy (Orlando, FL) is 20-3. In its last five games, TFA has outscored opponents, 45-2.
No. 14 Reno (NV) is 22-2 record. Grayson Grinsell was the winning pitcher in a 4-1 victory over Bishop Manogue (NV). He had 14 strikeouts.
Eric Nachtsheim not only was the winning pitcher in a 15-0 victory against Reed (NV), but he hit a grand slam and had 7 RBI in the game.
No. 15 Hamilton (Chandler, AZ) has one more game to wrap up the regular season. The Huskies are 21-3 and remain the top team in Arizona’s 6A rankings.
Entering the poll at No. 16 is Blythewood (SC) with a 23-1 record. The team won the IP Classic early in the season and kept on a roll, dropping only one game to Summerville (SC), 4-1. They have a 16-game win streak entering the playoffs.
No. 17 Edwardsville (IL) has posted a 19-0 record that includes games against top ranked teams in Illinois and Missouri (Large School). They beat Huntley, 5-4 which was ranked No. 1 in Illinois and Liberty, 4-3 which was ranked No. 1 in Missouri.
No. 18 is Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, CA) which is 23-3. In the Boras Classic South, they went 1-3, losing to La Mirada (CA), 7-0, Foothill (CA), 2-1 in 10 innings and Corona (CA), 8-0.
Berkeley Prep (Tampa,FL) is No. 19 with a 21-2 record. The Buccaneers recently dropped two games to Calvary Christian (Clearwater, 4-1 and 5-2.
In a 9-0 win over Tampa Catholic, JT Quinn tossed a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
No. 20 W.B. Ray (Corpus Christi, TX) is 25-3 overall and 13-0 in District play. They remain the top team in Texas 5A baseball.
No. 21 North Oconee (Bogart, GA) wrapped up the regular season with a 29-1 record, 18-0 in 4A Region 8 play. The Titans will begin the playoffs against Mays (GA).
No. 22 Allatoona (Acworth, GA) wrapped up its regular season with a 27-3 record. In the last 6 games, OF Blake Wootton has posted a .647 batting average and SS Taylor Shultz has a .465 batting average with one double, one triple, one home run, 7 RBI, 10 runs scored and 7 stolen bases.
The Buccaneers begin the 6A state playoffs against Lanier.
No. 23 St. Johns Country Day (Orange Park, FL) is 18-2, having won 5 games since finishing at the National High School Invitational.
Brad Hodges leads the offense with a .536 batting average, 1.624 OPS and 9 home runs. As a pitcher, he is 7-0 with 86 strikeouts in 42.1 innings. Jordan Taylor belted a home run against Christ Church for his 100th career hit.
No. 24 Buchanan (Clovis, CA) enters the poll with an 18-2 record. They are ranked third in the California state poll.
No. 25 American Heritage (Plantation, FL) is 20-1. The Patriots only loss was early in the season against Westminster Christian (Fort Lauderdale, FL), 12-11.
No. 26 Trinity (Louisville, KY) remains the top team in Kentucky with an 18-2 record. Recently, they defeated Lake Central (St. John, IN), 18-6.
No. 27 Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, AL) is 24-3-1 and clinched the 7A Area 6 championship. The Huskies will begin the state playoffs against Hoover (AL).
No. 28 Hanover (Mechanicsville, VA) is 9-2 and has won 5 straight games since going 2-2 in the National High School Invitation. They are undefeated in league play.
No. 29 Nixa (MO) has a 22-1 record and is ranked No. 1 in Missouri 6A baseball.
No. 30 Legacy (Broomfield, CO) is 13-0 and is 6-0 in Front Range League play.
Teams that fell out of the top 30 include Yucaipa (CA) 17-8, Buford (GA) 22-7, Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls, OH), 9-3, Christian Brothers College HS (St. Louis, MO) 14-6, La Cueva (Albuquerque, NM) 18-3, Rogers (AR) 17-3, Lake Travis (Austin, TX) 23-4-3 and Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, CA) 18-6-1.
