CALVARY CHRISTIAN NO. 1 IN HIGH SCHOOL POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Calvary Christian (Clearwater, FL) is ranked No. 1 in the first regular-season Collegiate Baseball National High School Poll, powered by Diamond Pro.

The Warriors posted a 3-0 record to start the season. They defeated Brooks DeBartolo, 20-1, Tampa Catholic, 4-2 and Palmetto, 7-1, all Florida schools

In the 4-2 win over Tampa Catholic, LHP Hunter Dietz gave up one hit, walked one, allowed 2 runs and struck out 7 in 5 innings to earn the win while RHP Landon Maroudis struck out 3 in 2 innings for the save. In a 7-1 win over Palmetto, Maroudis hit 2 home runs in the game — a solo shot in the third inning and a 2-run homer in the fifth. The Warriors are hitting .430 as a team.

No. 2 JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, CA) played two Arizona teams to begin its season and won both games. They defeated Chapparal (Scottsdale, AZ), 9-0 and Campo Verde (Gilbert, AZ), 10-1.

No. 3 Barbe (Lake Charles, LA) kicked off its season with 5 wins, beating South Beauregard, 4-0, Benton, 10-0, Airline, 10-0, Glenbrook, 11-1, and Calvary Baptist, 7-2, all from Louisiana.

JC Vanek (5 IP, 2 H, 4 K) and Diego Corrales (6 IP, 1 H, 3 K) have not allow a run so far. Five batters are hitting over .400 on the season.

No. 4 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) starts on March 9.

No. 5 Jesuit (Tampa, FL) started the season 3-0 with a big win over Parkview (Lilburn, GA), 8-3. The Tigers also defeated River Ridge (FL), 7-0 and Lowndes (GA), 11-1.

No. 6 Sinton (TX) began its season with 4 wins over Texas schools. In a 7-1 win over Jasper, RHP Braeden Brown threw 6 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 unearned run, 10 strikeouts and didn’t issue a walk. Blake Mitchell belted a 3-run homer in the game. In the 6-1 win over Canyon Lake, LHP Jaquae Stewart threw 6 innings, allowing 4 hits, 4 walks and struck out 13.

No. 7 Villa Park (CA) began its season with 4 straight wins over Aliso Niguel, 9-0, Millikan, 8-2, Downey, 18-7 and Fullerton, 4-3, all California teams. Gavin Grahovac is hitting .500 with 3 doubles, 2 home runs, 7 RBI and 6 runs scored.

No. 8 St. Mary’s Prep (Orchard Lake, MI), the 2-time defending national champions, begin on March 27. The Eaglets were 44-0 last season and maintained the top position for the entire 2022 season over 10 polls.

No. 9 Houston County (Warner Robins, GA) is 6-0 with wins over Georgia competition. In two games against Marist, the Bears won 10-5 and 10-8. Overall, they have outscored opponents, 69-18. In the first 5 games, the team’s batting average was .438 led by Drew Burress (.500, 4 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 9 RBI), Andrew Dunford (.533, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 7 RBI) and Eli Stephens (.533, 3 2B, 1 3B, 6 RBI).

No. 10 Berkeley Prep (Tampa, FL) started with a 2-0 record. In a 10-0 win over McKeel Academy (Lakeland, FL), James Hankerson belted a grand slam. LHP Rivers Kurland struck out 10 batters, walked 2, allowed 1 hit and no runs in 4 innings.

No. 11 Orange Lutheran (Orange, CA) began the season 5-1-1. The Lancers had two big wins over pre-season ranked teams Aquinas (San Bernardino, CA), 6-1 and Hamilton (Chandler, AZ), 12-5. They tied 4-4 with Gahr (Cerritos, CA) and lost to Chaparral (Scottsdale, AZ), 7-10.

No. 12 Parkview (Lilburn, GA) started its season with a 2-1 record. The Panthers beat Lassiter, 13-1 and St. Johns Neumann, 10-0 before losing to Tampa Jesuit (FL), 8-3. In the 13-1 win over Lassiter, RHP Garrett Lambert threw the first five innings to pick up the win. He had no earned runs, no walks and 10 strikeouts.

No. 13 Hamilton (Chandler, AZ) is 3-1. The Huskies defeated Hoover (AL), 7-6, lost to Orange Lutheran (CA), 12-5, beat El Dorado (CA), 6-0 and Bishop Verot (FL), 5-4. RHP Rohan Lettow tossed a perfect game in the 6-0 win over El Dorado.

No. 14 Jackson Prep (MS) is 4-0 with wins over Riverfield Academy, 18-4 and 14-0, Bayou Academy, 13-1 and Tupelo, 9-3. Rives Reynolds is hitting .727 in four games with a double, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 10 RBI and 9 runs scored. The team batting average is .442.

No. 15 Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, NJ) won’t begin until April.

No. 16 St. Xavier (Louisville, KY) starts March 14.

No. 17 Sulphur (LA) started the season 4-1. UT Jake Brown has allowed no hits and fanned 21 batters in 9 innings. He is hitting .471 with 3 homers and 5 RBI.

No. 18 Prestonwood Christian Academy (Plano, TX) is on fire this season with a 9-0 record. The Lions have outscored opponents, 78-10 and recorded 5 shutouts. Senior RHP Bennett Seal has posted a 0.00 ERA in 3 starts. Top hitters are Will Johnson (.464 BA), Tyler Rojas (.357) and Dondreone Kennedy (.345).

No. 19 Doral Academy (FL) is 2-1 to start the season. The loss was to Archbishop McCarthy (FL), 5-3.

No. 20 Basic Academy (Henderson, NV) starts March 3.

No. 21 Liberty North (MO) begins in mid-March.

No. 22 De La Salle (Concord, CA) starts March 3.

No. 23 Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, CA) is 3-1 to begin the season. The Wolverines lost the season opener to Foothill, 2-0, then came back to defeat Servite, 3-2, Cypress, 6-2 and Ayala, 5-0, all California schools.

No. 24 Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, FL) started its season with four straight wins. The Eagles outscored opponents 39-2. They had two shutouts to open the season against Coral Springs Charter (FL), 7-0 and West Broward (FL), 10-0.

No. 25 Catholic (Baton Rouge, LA) was 4-0 in the Jamboree B.O.S.H., playing against Louisiana teams. They defeated St. Paul, 4-1, Thibodaux, 4-0, Denham Springs, 11-1 and Ponchatula, 10-0.

No. 26 Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, OH) begins March 25.

No. 27 Jesuit (Portland, OR) starts March 20.

No. 28 Owasso (OK) starts March 2.

No. 29 Brother Rice (Chicago, IL) begins March 13.

No. 30 Aquinas (San Bernardino, CA) started its season 3-1 with a loss to Orange Lutheran, 5-1 and a 4-2 win over Huntington Beach in a PBR tournament in Southern California.

Teams that fell from the top 30 include Huntington Beach (CA), 1-3, Southlake Carroll (TX) 2-4 and Etiwanda (Rancho Cucamonga, CA), 2-2.

Teams to Watch include Basha (Chandler, AZ), Edwardsville (IL) and Auburn (AL), 4-1.
