TEXAS A&M NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Texas A&M (45-14) is ranked No.1 for the first time this season in the Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I baseball poll presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.
The Aggies captured their first Southeastern Conference tournament title with a 12-5 win over Florida. It marked their six league tournament title in school history with others coming in the Southwest and Big 12 conferences. Texas A&M extended its school record streak of appearances in the NCAA championship to 10 consecutive seasons.
Mississippi State, ranked number one last week after capturing the SEC regular-season title, fell out of the top spot after posting a 1-2 record in the SEC tournament.
Several teams have been red-hot. Louisiana-Lafayette and Bryant have won 10 in a row, Clemson and Coastal Carolina nine straight, Dallas Baptist seven of its last eight, Utah nine of its last 12 and Arizona six straight.
Poll Notes: In one of the greatest turnarounds in college baseball history, Utah captured the Pac-12 title with a 19-11 league record. The Utes have finished 11th in this brutally tough league the past four seasons and started the 2016 season with a 3-11 record. Once conference games started, Utah’s season changed for the better as they won series over Oregon, Arizona State, Arizona, UCLA, Washington State, Stanford, California and Washington.
Other noteworthy achievements over the past weekend include Clemson winning the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament title after having the fifth best league record in the ACC entering the tournament. Texas Christian won the Big 12 Conference tournament, Louisiana-Lafayette the Sun Belt Conference tournament, Coastal Carolina the Big South title, Cal State Fullerton the Big West championship, Southern Mississippi Conference USA tournament championship, Dallas Baptist Missouri Valley title, Bryant Northeast conference championship and Ohio State Big Ten tournament title.
The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1959 college baseball season.

NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
- RHP Mike Shawaryn, Maryland: Shawaryn struck out 16 batters during a 9-inning complete game, 5-3 win over Indiana in the opening round of the Big 10 tournament. He was one strikeout off the Big 10 tournament single game record.
- OF Nick Banks, Texas A&M: Banks was the MVP of the Southeastern Conference tournament as he went 9-for-23 at the plate with three home runs, two doubles and 7 RBI.
- RHP Heath Donica, Sam Houston State: Donica threw 186 pitches over two games during the Southland Conference tournament which stretched over 16 innings as he struck out 18 batters. In his first outing against Stephen F. Austin, he threw seven innings and struck out eight batters. Coming off three days rest, Donica carried a no hitter into the 9th inning during an 8-2 win over Stephen F. Austin. He finished with a two-hitter and struck out 10 batters.
- DH Mike Triller, Clemson: The MVP of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament was 6-for-13 with three doubles, two home runs and 4 RBI.
- OF Jake Salpietro, Fairfield: Salpietro was named MVP of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament as he was 9-for-13 with four doubles, one home run, seven runs scored and 5 RBI.
