Collegiate Baseball Div. I Poll 5-2-16

FLORIDA NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Florida (37-7) is ranked No.1 for the 10th time this season in the Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I baseball poll presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.

The Gators have won eight of their last 10 games and rank second in the Southeastern Conference with a 14-6 record. Last week Florida split two games at No. 2 South Carolina. Game three was canceled because of poor weather.

Poll Notes: Several teams of been hot lately. Louisville, Virginia, Long Beach State and Creighton have each won five in a row.

In key series over the past weekend Florida State split two games with Clemson, Texas A&M won two of three at Arkansas, Vanderbilt won three straight at home against Georgia, Mississippi State won two of three at Alabama, Texas Tech won two of three at TCU, Oregon State won two of three at home against Stanford, Georgia Tech swept a three-game series at home against Coastal Carolina, LSU lost two of three at Mississippi, Arizona lost two of three at Southern California, Long Beach State swept three from Cal Poly, Washington beat California two of three on the road and Oklahoma State swept a three-game series at Texas.

Two teams fell out of the top 30 this week in Cal Poly (0-4 last week), and California (lost five of last seven). New to the poll is Long Beach State (won five in a row) and Georgia Tech. (won five of last six).

The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1959 college baseball season.

NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

• LHP Joey Lucchesi, Southeast Missouri: Lucchesi tied a 54-year-old school record after striking out 17 batters over 8 innings against Murray State. He allowed only two walks.
  
  
• OF Daniel Johnson, New Mexico State: Johnson belted four home runs with two doubles, 14 RBI, and 8 runs scored as he went 12-for-20.

• RHP Kevin Ginkel, Arizona: Ginkel took a perfect game into the seventh inning against Arizona State on the road and settled for a two-hitter. He struck out 7 during a complete game, 8-0 victory over the Sun Devils.

• OF Joe DeRoche-Duffin, Connecticut: DeRoche-Duffin hit four home runs with 7 RBI and 7 runs scored over four games as he went 5-for-12 at the plate. In addition he had 6 walks and a stolen base.

• LHP Trey Ganns, Northern Kentucky: Ganns struck out 14 batters over 7 2/3 innings against Milwaukee during a 3-0 win. He struck out at least one batter in each inning including a stretch of five straight between the second and third innings.

• 3B Tyler Ratliff, Marshall: Ratliff belted three home runs and collected 11 RBI over four games. He went 9-for-18 at the plate and scored 9 runs.

• LHP Cole Irvin, Oregon: Irvin struck out 13 batters during an 8-0 win over Washington State. It was his third career shutout and fifth complete game.

• OF Chris Thibideau, North Florida: Thibideau hit three home runs with 6 RBI and scored 5 runs as he went 7-for-12 at the plate. He stole two bases.

• C Hagen Owenby, East Tennessee State: Owenby hit three home runs with 8 RBI as he went 13-for-20 over four games.
