TENNESSEE NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Tennessee (53-7) is ranked No. 1 for the ninth time this season in Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Division I baseball poll presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.
The Volunteers secured the program’s fourth SEC tournament championship and its first since 1995 by defeating Florida. Tennessee, which has won 8 straight games, also captured the SEC regular-season title with a 25-5 record.
The Volunteers lead eight NCAA Div. I statistical categories, including team ERA (2.35), hits allowed per 9 innings (6.15), home runs (141), home runs per game (2.35), slugging percentage (.604), WHIP (0.95), walks allowed per nine innings (2.39) and won-loss percentage (53-7 overall record).
Poll Notes: Stanford, winners of 16 straight, captured the Pac-12 Tournament with four consecutive victories. East Carolina has won 18 games in a row which includes the American Athletic Tournament championship and regular-season title. U.C. Santa Barbara has won 6 straight and 11 of its last 12. Texas has won 8 of its last 10 games and finished second at the Big 12 Tournament. North Carolina captured the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament with four straight wins. The Tar Heels have won 7 straight and 12 of their last 13.
Four teams fell out of the top 30 in Grand Canyon, Cal. Poly, Gonzaga and Iowa.
