Collegiate Baseball Div 1 Poll 5-28-18

OREGON ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL 

TUCSON, Ariz. — Oregon St. (44-10-1) is ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Div. I baseball poll presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.

The Beavers are on top of the poll for the sixth time this season after winning six of their last eight games and winning two of three at home over UCLA during the past weekend.

OSU is third in the nation with a .318 team batting average and features five players with 13 or more doubles and 125 overall as a team. On defense, the Beavers have limited opponents to only 16 stolen bases in 35 attempts over 55 games. The pitching staff has a 3.43 ERA led by Luke Heimlich who leads the nation with 14 wins (14-1, 2.49 ERA, 139 strikeouts, 21 walks).

Stanford, ranked No. 1 last week, slipped to third after losing two of three at Washington.

Florida, winners of the Southeastern Conference regular season, has struggled lately with losses in 6 of its last 7 games. The Gators slipped from second to fourth this week.

Poll Notes: Several teams are red-hot. Stetson has won 15 in a row, Minnesota 9 straight, Clemson 8 of its last 9, while Baylor has won 6 consecutive.

Conference tournament winners over the past week who are ranked include: Mississippi (Southeastern), Florida State (Atlantic Coast), Baylor (Big 12), Southern Mississippi (Conference USA), Minnesota (Big Ten), Stetson (Atlantic Sun), East Carolina (American Athletic), St. John’s (Big East), Coastal Carolina (Sun Belt) and Missouri St. (Missouri Valley).

Three teams fell out of the top 30, including Oklahoma St. (6 straight losses), South Florida (3-2 last week) and Vanderbilt (0-1). New to the poll is Baylor (6 straight wins, winners of the Big 12 Tournament), Cal. St. Fullerton (Big West Conference champion) and Washington (won 2 of 3 at home against Stanford).

The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1959 college baseball season.

Collegiate Baseball’s
National Players Of The Week

RHP Jared Reklaitis, Milwaukee: Reklaitis tied a school record with 15 strikeouts during a 3-1 win over Youngstown State during the Horizon League Tournament. He went all nine innings and allowed only 4 hits as he allowed no earned runs and 1 walk. His 15 strikeouts were a new Horizon League Tournament record.

LHP Eli Kraus, Kent State: Kraus fired a complete game 2-hitter with 12 strikeouts during a 14-0 win over Miami (Ohio) during the Mid-American Conference Tournament. He was named MVP.

1B Chris Williams, Clemson: Williams belted 3 homers, 2 doubles and collected 10 RBI over 3 games during the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament as he went 7-for-10. He also walked 4 times. Williams reached base via a hit or walk in 11 of his 14 plate appearances.

C Cesar Salazar, Arizona: Salazar belted 3 home runs with 8 RBI over three games against Oregon as he went 5-for-10 at the plate with 3 runs scored.
