LSU NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Louisiana St. (21-3) is ranked No. 1 for the seventh straight time in Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Division I baseball poll presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.
The Tigers beat Central Arkansas at home and then won two of three over Arkansas at home. LSU leads the nation with a .989 fielding percentage and has only committed 8 errors in 24 games. On offense, the Tigers are averaging 10.8 runs per game (second nationally). The pitching staff has a 3.02 ERA with 260 strikeouts and 81 walks.
In key series over the weekend, Louisville lost two of three at Notre Dame, South Carolina took three against Missouri at home, Virginia swept three at home against Florida St., Wake Forest won three at home against Miami (FL), Florida swept a 3-game series at Ole Miss, Vanderbilt swept 3 at Mississippi St., UCLA lost two of three at home to Washington, Texas swept a 3-game series at home against Texas Tech., Kentucky won two of three at Alabama, Boston College won two of three at home against N.C. State, Tennessee swept three at home against Texas A&M, North Carolina won two of three at home against Duke, Arizona St. swept three at home against Arizona and Southern California swept a 3-game series at home against Washington St.
Poll Notes: Several teams are on impressive winning streaks, including Texas (14), U.C. San Diego (10), Iowa (9), and Ball St. (8).
Seven teams fell out of the top 30 in Missouri (1-3 last week), Texas A&M (1-3), Ole Miss. (1-3), N.C. State (2-2), Alabama (2-2), Georgia Tech. (2-2), U.C. Irvine (1-2).
New to the poll is Texas (18-7, 14 wins in a row, 3-0 Big 12), Campbell (19-3, 6-0 Big South, 7 straight wins), Arizona St. (16-8, 5-1 Pac-12, 4 straight wins), Ball St. (17-6, 8-1 Mid-American, 8 straight wins), U.C. San Diego (15-6, 6-0 Big West, 10 straight wins), Southern California (14-8-1, 7-2 Pac-12, 5 straight wins) and Washington (16-6, 4-2 Pac-12, won 2 of 3 at UCLA).

3B Kris Armstrong, Jacksonville: Armstrong belted 8 home runs and 3 doubles over 5 games including 3-circuit clouts in two consecutive contests against Central Arkansas. Incredibly, he collected 24 RBI as he went 13-for-21 and scored 12 runs.
C Julian Brock, Louisiana: Brock hit 5 home runs in 5 games as he collected 14 RBI and went 9-for-15 at the plate.
OF Tanner Smith, Oregon: Smith homered in all 4 games last week with 2 doubles and collected 10 RBI as he went 9-for-14. He now has hit home runs in 5 consecutive games which is the longest streak in Oregon baseball history.
