Collegiate Baseball Div 1 Poll (3-21-22)

VANDERBILT NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Vanderbilt (17-2) is ranked No. 1 for the second straight time in Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Division I baseball poll presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.

The Commodores have won 16 straight and sit at 3-0 in the Southeastern Conference after beating Missouri three straight over the past weekend at home.

Vanderbilt has a 2.06 team ERA and has struck out 241 batters with 56 walks over 19 games. The offense is averaging 8.2 runs a game and has recorded 45 doubles, 27 homers and 6 triples along with 29/32 stolen bases.

Poll Notes: In key series over the weekend, Tennessee swept a 3-game series at home against South Carolina, Texas A&M took two of three at LSU, Louisville swept a 3-game series at home against Notre Dame, Mississippi won two of three at Auburn, Georgia beat Mississippi St. two of three at home, North Carolina beat Duke two of three on the road, Florida won two of three at Alabama and Arizona won two straight at home against Stanford.

Several teams have been hot. Vanderbilt has won 16 straight, Tennessee and Arkansas 11 in a row, Texas St. 8 consecutive while Oklahoma St. and South Alabama have won 7 straight.

Virginia is 19-1 to begin the season for the second time in school history. The 2009 Cavaliers won a school-record 19 straight games to start the year before dropping a 1-run decision against Miami. Louisville (16-4, 3-0 ACC) has won six straight and 13 of its last 14.

Four teams fell out of the top 30 in Stanford (2-2 last week, 1-4 in the Pac-12), Clemson (1-3 last week), Southern California (1-3) and U.C. Santa Barbara (2-1).

C/DH Burke Camper, Towson: Camper belted 5 home runs with 7 runs scored and 10 RBI as he hit .545 over 4 games. His most productive games were 2 home runs in 2 different games against Princeton.

RHP Gabriel Hughes, Gonzaga: Hughes threw six no-hit innings with 13 strikeouts during a 13-0 win over Pacific. He only allowed 1 walk and 1 hit by pitch.

RF Murphy Stehly, Texas: Stehly hit 4 home runs, 2 doubles and recorded 14 RBI with 9 runs scored as he went 12-for-22 at the plate.

C/OF Justin Butler, Lehigh: Butler belted 4 home runs with 8 runs scored, 9 RBI and 2 walks as he went 9-for-23.

LHP Cooper Hjerpe, Oregon St.: Hjerpe struck out a career-high 12 against Arizona St. as he allowed only 1 hit and 2 walks over 7 innings.

SS Jacob Wilson, Grand Canyon: Wilson went 18-for-23 at the plate and collected 10 consecutive hits at one point. He hit 3 homers, 4 doubles, collected 13 RBI and scored 9 runs.

CF Cesar Lopez, Cal Poly Pomona: Lopez went 10-for-15 with 7 doubles, 12 RBI and 5 runs scored during 4 games.

RHP Jon Snyder, Youngstown St.: Snyder allowed only 1 hit and had a season-high 10 strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings during a 4-0 win over Purdue Fort Wayne. He did not allow a hit until a 1-out single in the bottom of the sixth.

1B Andrew Jenkins, Georgia Tech.: Jenkins hit 4 homers with 9 RBI as he went 8-for-17 and scored 8 runs.

OF Alex Tappen, Virginia: Tappen belted 3 homers with 2 doubles, 6 runs scored and recorded 14 RBI as he went 11-for-18.
