LSU NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Louisiana St. (6-1) is ranked No. 1 for the third straight time in Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Division I baseball poll presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.

The Tigers posted a 3-1 record last week with wins over Southern, Kansas St. and Sam Houston St. along with a loss against Iowa.

LSU has only committed two errors in 234 chances over seven games and is averaging 9.8 runs per game.

No. 2 Wake Forest is off to a 9-0 record as the Demon Deacons have outscored opponents, 122-14. Wake Forest is hitting .370 and has a team ERA of 1.25. The staff has struck out 126 batters with only 20 walks over nine games.

In key series over the weekend, Texas A&M lost two of three to Portland at home, Vanderbilt took two of three against UCLA at home, Florida St. won two of three at TCU, East Carolina beat North Carolina twice on the road, U.C. Santa Barbara swept a 3-game series at Oregon and Ole Miss took two of three against Maryland at home.

Poll Notes: Several teams are on winning streaks, including Wake Forest (9), South Carolina (8), Alabama (8), Texas Tech. (8), Miami, Fla. (7), Virginia (7), Georgia Tech. (7) and N.C. State (7).

Five teams fell out of the top 30 in Oregon (0-3 last week), Maryland (1-3), Mississippi St. (3-2), Arizona (2-2) and Central Michigan (2-3). New to the top 30 is Iowa (5-1), Auburn (5-1-1), Alabama (8-0), South Carolina (8-0) and San Diego (5-0-1).

DH/1B Liam McFadden-Ackman, Northern Kentucky: McFadden-Ackman had a remarkable week as he belted 4 home runs with 13 RBI as he went 8-for-14. During a 27-4 win over Western Michigan, he belted 2 grand slams and hit for the cycle as he collected 10 RBI and went 5-for-6.

RHP Ryan Brown, Ball St.: Brown was electric on the mound during two appearances in relief as he struck out 17 batters in 6 1/3 innings of work and surrendered 1 walk. Against Canisius, he struck out 12 of the 13 batters he faced. He did not give up a hit.

1B Jac Caglianone, Florida: Caglianone hit 6 home runs and collected 10 RBI with 8 runs scored as he went 10-for-21 in five games.

LHP Liam Sullivan, Georgia: The southpaw fired 7 hitless innings with 11 strikeouts during a 9-0 win over Princeton. He retired 21 of the 23 batters he faced with 2 walks.

1B Hank Zeisler, Missouri: Zeisler homered in 4 straight games at Florida International as he drove in 9 runs while hitting .333.

RHP Janzen Keisel, Oklahoma St.: In his Oklahoma St. debut, Keisel struck out 11 California Baptist batters in 5 1/3 innings with only 1 walk and no hits allowed.

RF Ethan Petry, South Carolina: Petry belted 4 home runs with 9 RBI as he went 7-for-17.

LHP Sean Sullivan, Wake Forest: Sullivan retired the first 16 batters of the game against Mount St. Mary’s and didn’t allow a hit in 6 innings of work as he fanned 11 batters. He only allowed one baserunner.

C Devin Burkes, Kentucky: Over 3 games against Wright St., Burkes hit 7 doubles, 1 home run and collected 10 RBI with 5 runs scored as he went 8-for-13 at the plate.

RHP Hurston Waldrep, Florida: Waldrep struck out a career-high tying 13 batters across 6 innings during a 13-3 win over Cincinnati. Waldrep is the first Gator pitcher to strike out 13 batters since the 2018 season.

OF Chris Cannizzaro, Virginia Tech.: Cannizzaro not only hit 3 home runs, 1 triple and 1 double as he went 9-for-19. He also hit for the cycle as he went 5-for-6 with a double, triple, 2 home runs and a single against Bryant. He led Virginia Tech. with 7 runs scored and registered 5 RBI.

RHP Coleman Picard, Bryant: Picard struck out 12 Virginia Tech. batters over 5 innings. He walked 1.

RHP Trent Sellers, Oregon St.: Sellers struck out 12 Coppin St. batters in 5 1/3 innings and only surrendered 4 hits.

RHP Chase Burns, Tennessee: Burns fanned a career-high 12 Dayton batters over 6 1/3 innings and only allowed 2 hits

RHP Dawson Brown, Georgia Tech.: Brown struck out a career-high 12 batters over 6 innings against Tennessee Tech. He allowed 4 hits.

3B Mac Horvath, North Carolina: Horvath belted 3 homers with 3 doubles and collected 5 RBI as he went 6-for-17 at the plate.

SS Payton Green, N.C. State: Green hit 3 homers with 2 doubles and 8 RBI as he went 7-for-16 over 4 games.
