LSU NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Louisiana St. (3-0) is ranked No. 1 for the second straight time in Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Division I baseball poll presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.

The Tigers (3-0) swept a 3-game series at home to kick off the season against Western Michigan and outscored the Broncos, 24-5

LSU pitching has a 1.67 ERA in 3 games and has only allowed 9 hits with 35 strikeouts and 7 walks. The Tigers have not committed an error in 27 innings. On offense, LSU is averaging 8 runs per game and has belted 4 homers, 4 doubles, 2 triples and forced 18 walks with their disciplined hitters.

In key series across the nation, Stanford took two of three from a much-improved Cal. St. Fullerton team on the road. Tennessee had a rough start with losses against Arizona and Grand Canyon but then beat U.C. San Diego. Arkansas beat Texas, lost to TCU and then rebounded with a win against Oklahoma St.

Vanderbilt lost to TCU but then beat Oklahoma St. and Texas. TCU beat Vanderbilt and Arkansas but then dropped a game against Missouri in 10 innings.

Poll Notes: Two teams fell out of the top 30 who were ranked in the pre-season poll in Texas (0-3) and Rutgers (1-2). New to the top 30 this week is Florida St. (3-0, 32nd in the pre-season poll) and Arizona (2-1, 33rd in the pre-season poll).

DH Chase Mora, Texas St.: Mora is off to a historic start for his collegiate career. The true freshman hit a home run in his first 3 career plate appearances against Northwestern. He hit a 3-run homer in the second game of the series and followed it with a solo shot and grand slam in game 3. So far this season, he is 3-for-3 in 2 games with 3 homers and 8 RBI.

RHP Paul Skenes, LSU: Skenes fanned 12 batters in 6 shutout innings against Western Michigan and only allowed 3 hits with 1 walk. It was the most amount of strikeouts by an LSU pitcher since the 2021 season. It also was the most strikeouts by an LSU pitcher in a season opener since the 1995 season.

1B Nick Kurtz, Wake Forest: Kurtz belted 4 home runs in 4 games as he went 6-for-12 at the plate with 10 RBI and scored 8 runs.

RHP Braxton Bragg, Dallas Baptist: Bragg struck out a career-high 12 batters and only allowed 1 hit over 5 shutout innings during an 8-0 win against Fordham on opening day. It was the most amount of strikeouts by a Dallas Baptist pitcher on opening day in school history.

C Josiah Cromwick, Oregon: Cromwick belted 3 home runs with 1 double and 6 RBI over 3 games for the Ducks as he went 4-for-9 at the plate.

OF Jack DeLeo, Georgia Tech.: DeLeo belted 3 home runs during a 3-game series against Miami (OH) and collected 6 RBI as he scored 6 times.

LHP Sean Sullivan, Wake Forest: Sullivan was impressive in his debut against Illinois as he struck out 10 batters while allowing just 2 hits and 1 walk over 4 scoreless innings. He tallied at least 2 strikeouts in all 4 innings.

SS Mac McCroskey, Oral Roberts: McCroskey homered 3 times on opening day against Northern Illinois. Over the 4-game series, he was 8-for-18 with 3 homers, 7 RBI and 2 stolen bases.

RHP Nick Parker, Virginia: Parker matched a career-high with 10 strikeouts over 5 innings of work against Ohio. He finished his outing by striking out the final 7 batters.

LHP Henry Weycker, Virginia Tech.: Weycker set a career high with 10 strikeouts over 4 1/3 scoreless innings against College of Charleston. He collected 10 of his 13 outs by strikeouts and only allowed 3 hits.

RHP Brody Brecht, Iowa: Brecht pitched 5 perfect innings against Quinnipiac to earn the win and struck out 10 batters.

DH Jake Ticer, Old Dominion: Ticer homered 3 times and drove in 5 runs during the final game against St. John’s. Over the 3-game series, he was 5-for-8 (.625) with 3 homers, 1 double, 7 RBI and 5 runs scored.
