LSU NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Louisiana St. is ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball’s first regular-season NCAA Div. I baseball poll presented by Big League Chew.
The Tigers (3-0) beat Louisiana-Monroe, Army and Air Force to kick off the season at home. LSU, which scored 35 runs on 37 hits in the trio of games, is averaging 11.6 runs per game with 6 home runs and 9 doubles. Five batters are hitting .385 or higher.
LSU, ranked first for the second poll of 2019, was picked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball’s Pre-Season poll last December.
Poll Notes: UCLA (3-0) started the season with three wins at home against St. John’s. The Bruins did not give up an earned run in 27 consecutive innings. Vanderbilt started the season with a 15-0 win over Virginia and a 14-9 victory over Cal. St. Fullerton before losing, 10-2 to Texas Christian.
Connecticut beat Louisville two of three in Lakeland, Fla. to start the season. Florida St. swept a 4-game series at home against Maine. In the first game of the series, three Seminole pitchers (Drew Parrish, Conor Grady and Chase Haney) combined on a no-hitter during an 11-0 win. The trio struck out 10 Maine batters.

2B Nick Gonzales, New Mexico St.: Gonzales put in a remarkable hitting display over his first four games as he went 16-for-22 at the plate with 4 homers, 1 double, 12 runs scored and 16 RBI in games against Texas Southern.
RHP Will Bausinger, Missouri Southern St.: Bausinger became the first pitcher in school history to throw a perfect game during a 9-0 win over Washburn. Over nine innings, he struck out 17 batters and threw 122 pitches. It marked the second highest strike total in school history
RHP Grant Judkins, Iowa: Judkins pitched a career-high six no-hit innings and struck out a career-high 11 batters during a 10-0 win over Marshall.
OF/DH Chase Sortor, Morehead St.: In two games against Furman, Sortor went 5-for-7 with 3 home runs, 2 doubles, 5 runs scored and 6 RBI.
RHP Alek Manoah, West Virginia: Manoah struck out 13 Kennesaw St. batters over six innings with no walks and one earned run.
1B Tanner Allen, Mississippi St.: Allen was 7-for-13 at the plate with 2 home runs, 3 doubles, 13 RBI and 5 runs scored during a 3-game series against Youngstown St.
LHP John Doxakis, Texas A&M: Doxakis had a career-tying 12 strikeouts over 7 innings during a 4-0 win over Fordham. He only allowed 1 hit, no runs and didn’t walk a batter.
RHP Drey Jameson, Ball St.: Jameson struck out 9 in 6 innings against Stanford and didn’t allow a hit.
LHP Jared Shuster, Wake Forest: Shuster struck out a career-high 11 batters over 6 innings during a 5-3 win over Georgetown. Entering the game, he had never struck out more than 4 batters in a game at Wake Forest.
SS Trei Cruz, Rice: Cruz went 8-for-18 at the plate with 2 home runs, 2 triples, 10 RBI, scored 5 runs, stole 2 bases and had 18 total bases during a 3-game series against Rhode Island. He did the bulk of his damage in the finale as he collected 4 extra base hits and drove in 9 runs, one shy of the school record held by his dad, Jose Cruz, Jr.
