FRIENDSWOOD H.S. NO. 1 IN CB POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Friendswood (Friendswood, TX) is ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball’s National High School Poll powered by Diamond Pro with a perfect 29-0 record.
The Mustangs have rolled through the regionals, defeating Port Neches-Groves (TX), 4-2 and 15-7 in the Quarterfinals. In the second game, Izaac Pacheco went 5-for-5 with 10 RBI on two singles, two doubles and a home run.
They advance to the Regional semi-finals in Texas’ 5A to play College Station (TX) three games. Earlier in an Area game against Fulshear (TX), the Mustangs won 7-0. Jacob Rogers tossed a one-hitter and struck out 10.
The Friendswood’s pitching staff has posted a 1.44 team ERA for the season and have a .328 team batting average.
No. 2 St. Mary’s (Orchard Lake, MI) is 31-1 and has four more games before completing its regular season. The Eaglets have posted a .388 team batting average while the pitching staff has a 1.46 team ERA.
Leading the pitching staff are Brock Porter (6-0, 0.88 ERA, 71 K) and Thomas Allman (6-0, 0.70 ERA, 60 K).
No. 3 Barbe (Lake Charles, LA) completed its season winning the Louisiana 5A state title by defeating West Monroe (LA), 5-0. Gavin Guidry threw a complete game, 2-hitter, striking out nine.
In the semi-finals against Sam Houston (LA), the Buccaneers won 1-0 in 11 innings. Jack Walker threw a 10-inning no-hitter, his third no-hitter of the season. He finished the season with a 13-0 record, 0.42 ERA, 121 strikeouts, 22 walks in 83.2 innings. He allowed 24 hits and all were singles. The Buccaneers finished 39-2.
No. 4 Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, FL) won Florida’s 7A state title after defeating Spruce Creek (FL), 5-1. They posted a 28-2 record which is the most wins in the program’s history. It was their second state title.
No. 5 Ayala (Chino Hills, CA) is 20-1 with recent wins over Yucaipa 12-8 and Colony, 24-3 and 12-3. The Bulldogs have posted a .363 team batting average. Leading hitters are Troy McCain (.500, 9 2B, 6 HR, 23 RBI) and Mateo Matthews (.372, 7 2B, 7 HR, 30 RBI).
No. 6 Madison Central (Madison, MS) is 31-2. After getting a bye in the first round of the Mississippi 6A state playoffs, the Jaguars defeated South Panola and beat Starkville two out of three to advance to the Final Four where they beat Tupelo in the first game of that series.
No. 7 Orange Lutheran (Orange, CA) is 25-2 after recently beating Santa Margarita, 19-14, 10-0 and 2-0 and St. John Bosco, 23-0, 4-0 and 9-4.
Moving up to No. 8 is Gregory-Portland (Portland, TX) which is 35-2-1. The Wildcats have advanced to the Texas 5A Regional Semi-Finals after defeating Mission Sharyland, 3-2 and 7-0 and Corpus Christi Carroll, 1-0 and 7-0. In 6 playoff games, the Wildcats have given up only 5 runs.
No. 9 Buchanan (Clovis, CA) is 22-1 and recently defeated league foe Clovis West, 9-5 and 5-2.
No. 10 Reagan (Pfafftown, NC) is 7-1. The Raiders only loss is a 10-9 game against North Davidson and has since posted 4 shutouts in the last 6 games.
No. 11 Jesuit (Tampa, FL) lost in the Regional semis 3-2 to Jefferson to end its season at 26-3.
No. 12 Buford (Buford, GA) 32-2 — season over. Buford hit .343 with 76 doubles, 17 triples and 12 homers. The pitching staff had a 0.65 ERA with 362 strikeouts and 56 walks.
No. 13 Puyallup (WA) 16-0 — season over.
No.14 Thousand Oaks (CA) is 23-2. Max Muncy has been putting up big numbers to lead the team’s offense. He is hitting .469, 8 2B, 2 3B, 9 HR, 40 RBI.
No. 15 Reno (NV) is 18-1 to complete the regular season. Their only loss was to McQueen (NV), 6-2.
New to the poll at No. 16 is Butler (Vandalia, OH) which has advanced to the district semi-finals with a 25-2 record. Catcher Boston Smith was named the Miami Valley League Player of the Year.
Also new to the poll at No. 17 is Liberty (Peoria, AZ) which defeated Alhambra (Phoenix, AZ), 10-0 to win the Arizona 6A state championship. They finished 21-3.
No. 18 Roff (OK) went through its season undefeated at 33-0 and won the Oklahoma Class B state title.
No. 19 Baylor (Chattanooga, TN) is 24-4 and will start the finals of the state tournament this week. If they win the title, it will be their third championship in a row. In a battle against Ensworth (Nashville, TN), Cooper Kinney belted a three-run homer that led Baylor to a 12-11 win.
No. 20 Trinity (Louisville, KY) is 31-2 with two more games to go in the regular season.
No. 21 Ft. Zumwalt West (O’Fallon, MO) is the District 4 champs in Missouri’s 6A with a 33-4 record. The pitching staff has a 1.46 ERA and has accumulated 301 strikeouts in 245 innings. Pitchers have allowed just 90 runs in 37 games (2.46 runs per game).
No. 22 Magnolia Heights (Senatobia, MS) defeated Hartfield Academy (MS), 11-1 to 10-2, to win the MAIS 4A state title. The Chiefs finished 34-4 and did not lose a game to any Mississippi opponent all season and captured its 12th state title.
No. 23 Lassiter (Marietta, GA) has advanced to the Georgia 6A state title game and will play Houston County. They are 32-6.
No. 24 Farragut (Knoxville, TN) is 36-5 for the regular season and advances to the D1 AAA state tournament where the Admirals will play McMinn County.
No. 25 Providence (Charlotte, NC) is 7-1. They recently rattled off 4 straight shutouts over Harding, 13-0 and 10-0 and Berry, 8-0 and 14-0.
No. 26 Mamaroneck (NY) kicked off its season with 14 straight wins. The pitching staff has allowed only 9 earned runs over the 14 games and tossed 6 shutouts.
No. 27 Lake Travis (Austin, TX) lost in the quarterfinals to Round Rock (TX), 2-1 and 9-1. Their final record was 32-6-2.
No. 28 Ronald Reagan (San Antonio, TX) also lost 2 of 3 games in the quarterfinals to Smithson Valley (Spring Branch, TX) to end its season at 35-6.
No. 29 Auburn (AL) captured the Alabama 7A state title and finished 36-5. The Tigers defeated Hoover (AL) in a best of 3 game series. They won the first game 9-2, lost the second 8-2 and won the final game 7-6. It is Auburn’s fourth state title in school history.
No. 30 Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls, OH) is 18-3 and will play Hudson (OH) in the state Division I tournament.
Falling out of the poll are Hamilton (Chandler, AZ), Owasso (OK), Hartfield Academy (Flowood, MS), Parkview Baptist (Baton Rouge, LA), Lakeland Christian (Lakeland, FL), Winter Park (FL) and Bryant (AR).
