ARGYLE H.S. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — After winning 23 games in a row, Argyle (TX) remains No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball’s National High School Poll powered by Diamond Pro.
The Eagles have rolled to a 35-1-1 record and have only lost once in its last 74 games over the past two seasons.
Argyle posted a 37-0 record last season.
It is the third straight poll Argyle has been ranked No. 1 in the nation and fourth overall. Entering the season, the Eagles were ranked No. 1 by Collegiate Baseball.
Argyle advanced to the Texas 4A semi-finals. They defeated Graham, 2-1 and 13-0 and Brownwood, 22-0 and 11-1 in best of 3 series. They now face Canyon in the semi-finals. Chad Ricker helped the Eagles advance by throwing a five-inning no-hitter against Brownwood in the 22-0 win. He also belted two home runs in that game and had a homer in the second game of the series.
No. 2 DeSoto Central (Southhaven, MS) won its second Mississippi 6A championship after beating St. Martin, 3-1 and 5-0. They finished 34-3. In the first game of the series, RHP Cade Smith struck out 10.
No. 3 Georgetown (TX) advanced to the Regional semi-finals after beating Porter (TX), 4-3 and 13-1. They are 36-2-1 and will play Santa Fe (TX) next.
No. 4 New Hanover (Wilmington, NC) is 24-1 and will play D.H. Conley in the North Carolina 3A East finals. The Wildcats have sailed through the playoffs so far beating Union Pines, 9-0, Gray’s Creek, 10-0, Southeast Guilford, 7-1 and Terry Sanford, 8-1. They have outscored opponents 34-2. RHP Alex Sniffen tossed a 5-inning, no-hitter against Gray’s Creek, striking out 7 and walking 2.
No 5 Barbe (Lake Charles, LA) wrapped up its season with a 38-3 record and its 10th state 5A title over the last 22 years. In the championship game, Barbe beat Sam Houston, 8-2. Junior Brody Drost was named Most Outstanding Player for the game, going 3-for-4 with a double, home run and 5 RBI. Sophomore Jack Walker threw 6 2/3 innings, giving up only 2 runs on 2 hits with 10 strikeouts.
No. 6 Cypress (CA) won the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship by beating Harvard-Westlake, 2-0. They finished 31-3.
No 7 De La Salle (Concord, CA) has reached the semi-finals of the CIF North Coast Section Division 1 where they will play Foothill (CA). The Spartans are 27-1 after beating James Logan, 5-0 and Monte Vista, 2-1 to advance in the tournament.
No. 8 Cypress Ranch (Cypress, TX) is 31-4-1 and has advanced to the 6A Regional semi-finals and will face Rockwall (TX). The Mustangs went 2-1 against Round Rock in the last round, winning 2-1, losing 2-1 and winning 3-0. In the first game of the series, Matt Thompson struck out 12 to win 2-1.
No. 9 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, FL) is 24-3 and in the Regional playoffs. They won their District title, defeating South Plantation, 10-0 in 6 innings. In the Regionals, they beat Spanish River, 10-2 and Coral Glades, 11-2. They will meet McArthur for the chance to advance to the Florida 8A Final Four.
No. 10 Blanchard (OK) defeated Harrah, 14-5 to win the Oklahoma 4A state title and went undefeated for the season at 39-0.
No. 11 Farragut (Knoxville, TN) has a 38-3 record. The Admirals saw its 30-game winning streak snapped after losing to Hardin Valley Academy, 5-2 in the Regionals but came back to defeat Tennessee High, 2-0 to win the Sectional game and advance to the state tournament where they will meet Bartlett (TN).
No. 12 Lake Travis (Austin, TX) advanced in the Texas 5A tournament after going 2-1 against Johnson (San Antontio, TX), losing 2-0 and winning 12-6 and 1-0. They will play South United in the Regional semi-finals. They are 33-4.
No. 13 Colleyville Heritage (Colleyville, TX) is 33-3 and set to play Amarillo (TX) in the Regional semi-finals. They went 2-1 against Mansfield Legacy (TX), winning 13-3 and 7-3 and losing 3-2.
No. 14 Mosley (Lynn Haven, FL) advanced to the 6A Regional finals with a 24-3 record. They will play Paxon School for Advanced Studies next. Earlier they defeated West Florida, 13-5 and Gulf Breeze, 4-2 to advance in the tournament.
No. 15 Valley Christian (San Jose, CA) beat Palo Alto (CA), 4-0 in the first round of the CIF Central Coast Section and will face Serra (San Mateo, CA) next. They are 27-4.
No. 16 Parkview (Lilburn, GA) captured the Georgia 7A championship after defeating Hillgrove, 4-1 and 9-0. The Panthers ended the season with a 16-game win streak. This marked back-to-back state titles for the Panthers who finished 35-4.
No. 17 Mountain Vista (Highlands Ranch, CO) is 23-2 and on a 19-game win streak. They defeated Mullin, 12-1 and Dakota Ridge, 20-2 to win the 5A Region 1 and advance in the state tournament to play Rocky Mountain.
No. 18 Benedictine (Richmond, VA) beat St. Christopher, 7-4 for the Virginia Division 1 title and finished 28-2.
No. 19 Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, CA) made it to the championship game of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 but lost to Cypress, 2-0. They completed the season with a 27-6-1 record.
No. 20 Orange Lutheran (Orange, CA) was knocked out of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 in the third round by Harvard-Westlake in a 4-3 game. They completed the season 27-5.
No. 21 Desert Oasis (Las Vegas, NV) battled Reno (NV) for the Nevada 4A championship. The Diamondbacks dominated in the final game, winning 9-1, scoring four runs on 6 hits in the first inning and two runs in the third. LHP Josh Sharman threw 3 1/3 innings of relief to pick up the victory. He allowed 5 hits and no runs and also went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Desert Oasis finished 34-8.
No. 22 Delbarton (Morristown, NJ) is 20-3 and had a big win against previously ranked Malvern Prep (PA), 12-2. Jack Leiter tossed a 5-inning no-hitter and recorded an RBI in the win. Delbarton has a bye for the first round in the New Jersey North Non-Public A tournament.
Jackson (Massillon, OH) moves into the poll at No. 23 and is the top team in Ohio with a 23-3 record for the regular season. They will start the Division 1 playoffs against Lake (Uniontown, OH) next.
No. 24 Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls, OH) won its Sectional title with a 10-0 win over Stow. Nate Stahl hurled four innings, allowing one hit while Henry Kaczmar was 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored and hit his first home run for the Warriors. Walsh Jesuit is 21-3 as they advance in the state playoffs.
No. 25 American Heritage (Delray Beach, FL) has a 28-2 record after posting two shutout victories in the Florida 4A tournament. They defeated Bishop Verot, 3-0 and Oxbridge Academy, 8-0. They face Trinity Christian Academy next.
No. 26 Volcano Vista (Albuquerque, NM) unseated a number of top New Mexico teams to win the 5A state title with a 25-5 record. The Hawks went 2-1 against Alamagordo and beat Carlsbad, 11-7, Rio Rancho, 10-4 and Cleveland, 7-5 to take the title.
No. 27 St. Laurence (Burbank, IL) wrapped up its regular season with a 28-5 record. Matt McCormick became the all-time record holder at the school in nearly every offensive category, including home runs with 7. He also has been a force on the mound, recording 7 saves and a 2-0 record in 12 innings. St. Laurence enters regional play.
No. 28 Hamilton (Chandler, AZ) beat Corona del Sol (Tempe, AZ) 8-1 for the Arizona 6A state title. The Huskies completed the season 26-7. Freshman Pitcher Logan Saloman got the win after giving up 3 hits in 7 innings and allowed one run in the first inning.
No. 29 Saint Xavier (Louisville, KY) defeated Male (Louisville, KY), 11-0 to win its District title and are currently 26-6.
No. 30 Sam Houston (Lake Charles, LA) lost in the Louisiana 5A championship game to Barbe, 8-2. They finished 37-5.
Teams that fell out of the top 30 include Cherry Hill West (NJ), Bryant (AR), Malvern Prep (PA), Mesquite (AZ), Nogales (AZ) and Owasso (OK).
