BUFORD H.S. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Buford (Buford, GA) is ranked No. 1 for the fourth straight Collegiate Baseball National High School Poll presented by Diamond Pro with a perfect 29-0 record.
The Wolves completed their regular season with 17 shutouts as the pitching staff has posted a 0.60 team ERA. The staff has struck out 310 batters and walked just 48. Opponents have hit just .125 against Buford this season.
Dylan Lesko led the team to a 4-0 win over Grayson (GA) by striking out 18 and giving up just two hits.
No. 2 St. Mary’s (Orchard Lake, MI) is on a roll this season, posting a 19-0 record. The Eaglets now have 39 straight wins dating back to the 2019 season. They did not play a single game in 2020, but in 2019 won 20 straight games. If you don’t count two games that ended in ties, they actually have not lost in 47 consecutive games since 2019.
Pitching continues to be a strong element for St. Mary’s. In a 5-0 win over Catholic Central, Tommy Allman tossed a 7-inning complete game, allowing one hit with 15 strikeouts and 3 walks.
No. 3 Thousand Oaks (Thousand Oaks, CA) has a perfect 12-0 record. The team has posted a .356 batting average and a 1.55 team ERA.
No. 4 Madison Central (Madison, MS) saw its 24-game winning streak snapped with a 7-6 setback to Brandon (MS). The offense has a .412 batting average led by Hunter Hines (.557, 9 2B, 7 HR, 45 RBI). The pitching staff has a 0.95 team ERA led by Braden Montgomery (6-1, 0.40 ERA, 16 BB, 68 K, 35 IP).
No. 5 Jesuit (Tampa, FL) finished its regular season with a 23-2 record. Their only loss in the last rating period was to IMG National, 4-2 but defeated Calvary Christian (Clearwater), 10-1, Berkeley Prep, 10-0, Blake, 11-1 and Champagnat Catholic, 4-0.
No. 6 Barbe (Lake Charles, LA) completed its regular season with a 32-2 record. The Buccaneers broke the school record for most stolen bases in a season with 228 and most hit by pitches with 94.
In a win over New Iberia, Gavin Guidry (LSU commit) struck out 17 while senior Jack Walker (Mississippi State) threw a no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Lafayette (LA).
No. 7 Reagan (Pfafftown, NC) will start its season with a game against No. 22 ranked Providence (Charlotte, NC).
No. 8 Friendswood (Friendswood, TX) has rolled to a 23-0 record to complete the regular season. They are ranked No.1 in Texas 5A in the Diamond Pro/Texas High School Baseball poll after posting a 14-0 record in district play.
No. 9 Farragut (Knoxville, TN) enters its final week of regular season games with a 26-2 record.
The pitching staff has a 1.24 team ERA led by Jaxson Pease (5-0, 0.74 ERA, 12 BB, 54 K, 38 IP). The hitters have posted a .356 team batting average led by Bryce Burkey (.500, 4 2B, 3 3B, 2 HR, 26 RBI), Tanner Kim (.461, 8 2B, 6 HR, 33 RBI) and Angus Pence (.434, 3 2B, 5 HR, 18 RBI).
No. 10 Orange Lutheran (Orange, CA) is 13-2 with recent wins over Mira Costa (Manhattan Beach, CA), 3-0 and 12-2 and La Mirada (CA), 15-6 and 4-1.
No. 11 Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, FL) completed its regular season with a 21-2 record and will begin district playoffs. The Eagles beat No. 30 Calvary Christian Academy (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), 9-3. Christian Rodriguez went 5 innings and allowed 2 earned runs and struck out 8.
No. 12 Hamilton (Chandler, AZ) posted a 12-2 record. Despite a couple of losses this season, the Huskies pitching staff has been dominant. Kole Klecker blanked Desert Ridge (AZ), 4-0. Logan Saloman returned from an injury to shut out Casteel (AZ), 7-0. Brock Selvidge pitched 4 innings against Horizon (AZ) to win 9-6. He allowed one hit and struck out 12.
No. 13 Owasso (OK) is 25-3 and headed into regional playoffs. Jackson Farrell (7-1) tossed a no-hitter against Ponca City while Brennan Phillips (7-1) threw a 6-inning, one-hitter against Ponca with 17 of the 28 outs coming via the strikeout.
No. 14 Lake Travis (Austin, TX) remains No. 1 team in Texas 6A baseball and posted a 25-3-2 record. The Cavaliers have a final district series to complete the regular season.
No. 15 Buchanan (Clovis, CA) is 11-1 and posted recent wins over Redwood (Visalia, CA), 12-2, Tulare Union (CA), 21-0, San Joaquin Memorial (Fresno, CA), 7-2 and Madera (CA), 12-0.
No. 16 Ronald Reagan (San Antonio, TX) clinched its district championship with a 14-1 record (27-3 overall). They maintain the No. 2 spot in the Texas 6A poll.
New to the Collegiate Baseball national poll at No. 17 is Rancho Bernardo (San Diego, CA) which is 15-1. The Broncos recently saw its 14-game win streak snapped with a 3-1 loss to La Costa Canyon (CA). Rancho Bernardo turned around and beat them, 11-0 the next game.
Also new to the poll at No. 18 is Winter Park (FL) which is ranked No.1 in Florida’s 7A at 23-1. They will begin the District playoffs.
No. 19 Ayala (Chino Hills, CA) is 11-1 and 5-0 in the Palomares League. In the last four games against league foes, Ayala beat Claremont, 7-1, Glendora, 9-5, Colony (Ontario, CA), 8-0, and Bonita (Laverne, CA), 6-3.
Hartfield Academy (Flowood, MS) enters the poll at No. 20 with a 31-2 record. Hartfield swept Hillcrest (MS) to finished undefeated in league play and defeated Natchez Cathedral 14-0 and 12-2 in the opening round of a playoff series to extend its win streak to 31.
No. 21 Valley Christian (San Jose, CA) is 10-2. They just began league play and are 2-1.
No. 22 Providence (Charlotte, NC) begins its season.
No. 23 Malvern Prep (Malvern, PA) recently dropped two games against Scotland Campus, 5-1 and 6-1 to post a 12-3 record.
No. 24 Baylor (Chattanooga, TN) has played a tough schedule this season and is 17-3 overall (4-0 in league play). They recently lost 9-5 to Parkview (Lilburn, GA) which broke a 12-game winning streak.
No. 25 Carrollton (GA) concluded its regular season with a 27-3 record. They recently beat region opponent Dalton twice, 14-4 and 5-4. Samuel Simpson hit a 2-run homer to help win game two. They are No. 2 in Georgia’s 6A behind nationally No. 1 ranked Buford.
No. 26 Gregory-Portland (Portland, TX) posted a 27-2-1 record and is ranked No. 2 behind Friendswood (TX) in Texas 5A by the Diamond Pro/THSB poll.
No. 27 Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls, OH) is 11-2 after a recent loss to Mayfield (OH), 9-4.
No. 28 Bryant (AR) has posted a 19-2 record. In an 11-2 win over Central, Noah Davis went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and 2 RBI.
New to the poll at No. 29 is Fort Zumwalt West (O’Fallon, MO) which has posted a 22-3 record. The Jaguars are leading Missouri’s 5A and won both the Troy Classic, Midwest Classic and Columbia tournament earlier in the season.
Pitching has been dominating, led by Noah Hargraves (5-1, 2.00 ERA), Tanner Perry (3-2, 0.47 ERA) and Nolan Miller (4-0, 1.91 ERA).
No. 30 Calvary Christian Academy (Fort Lauderdale, FL) wraps up the regular season at 17-4-1 and enters the post-season playoffs.
Teams that fell out of the top 30 include De La Salle (Concord, CA), Auburn (AL), St. Xavier (Louisville, KY), Grayson (Loganville, GA) and Doral Academy (Doral, FL).
