Collegiate Baseball HS Poll (4-13-21)

BUFORD H.S. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Buford (Buford, GA) is ranked No. 1 in the latest Collegiate Baseball National High School Poll presented by Diamond Pro with a perfect 25-0 record.

The Wolves have outscored opponents 207-20 and recorded 16 shutouts. The pitching staff has a 0.70 team ERA and have allowed just 68 hits, walked 46 and struck out 258. The team batting average is .351 through 25 games.

No. 2 Madison Central (Madison, MS) also remains undefeated with a 21-0 record. Leading the offense is UT Hunter Hines (Mississippi State) with 7 home runs, UT Braden Montgomery (Stanford) with a .400 batting average and 3 homers and 3B Connor Chisolm (Hinds CC) with a .550 batting average.

Leading the pitching staff is LHP Ranard Grace with a 5-0 record, 0.10 ERA, 40 strikeouts in 25 innings. No. 3 Jesuit (Tampa, FL) is 18-1 and ranked the top team in the state of Florida by the Florida High School Athletic Association.

The Tigers have won the last 13 games and have posted a .343 team batting average and a 1.48 team ERA in 19 games. Top pitchers include RHP Kris Sosnowski (5-0, 0.24 ERA, 3 BB, 33 K, 29 IP), RHP Alden Segui (4-0, 2.17 ERA, 12 BB, 35 K, 19.1 IP) and LHP Dominic Castellano (5-1, 1.70 ERA, 11 BB, 51 K, 33 IP).

No. 3 St. Mary’s (Orchard Lake, MI) started the season with 8 straight wins. In a doubleheader against Portage Northern, SS Alex Mooney went 5-for-9 with 4 home runs, including two grand slams, and 13 RBI. St. Mary’s won the games 20-2 and 17-2.

No. 5 Thousand Oaks (Thousand Oaks, CA) has rolled to an 8-0 record. The Lancers have risen to the top of several California polls after many upsets occurred over the past two weeks among the top ranked teams. Offense has been the Lancers biggest strength led by Roc Riggio, Max Muncy and Charlie Saum.

No. 6 Farragut (Knoxville, TN) is 17-1 and ranked No. 1 in Tennessee’s 3A baseball. The Admirals have posted a 1.24 team ERA and .364 batting average.

Top pitchers include Jaxson Pease (3-0, 0.58 ERA, 9 BB, 32 K, 24 IP), Carson Mitchel (4-0, 0.35 ERA, 10 BB, 34 K, 20 IP) and Hunter Merrick (3-0, 1.56 ERA, 8 BB, 29 K, 18 IP). The leading hitters include Bryce Burkey (.517, 4 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR, 17 RBI), Tanner Kim (.490, 6 2B, 4 HR, 23 RBI) and Angus Pence (.420, 3 2B, 5 HR, 16 RBI).

No. 7 Reagan (Pfafftown, NC) will begin its season at the end of April.

No. 8 Hamilton (Chandler, AZ) is 8-1 and 6-0 in the 6A Premier division. The Huskies defeated Brophy Prep (AZ), 3-2 and 14-7 recently.

No. 9 Orange Lutheran (Orange, CA) is 9-1. Earlier in the season, the Lancers lost by one run to Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, CA). Orange Lutheran has since defeated perennial powerhouse Harvard-Westlake, 4-3 and 9-5. The Lancers have won six in a row.

No. 10 Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, FL) is 9-1. Chris Arroyo and Christian Rodriguez combined for a two-hit shutout to defeat Pines Charter (FL), 6-0. Arroyo is 8-0 and Rodriguez is 3-0 with 2 saves. Jake Clement got the win against Westminster (FL) going 4 2/3 innings with 7 strikeouts.

No. 11 Barbe (Lake Charles, LA) has a 27-2 record that includes 12 shutouts and is ranked No.1 in the Louisiana Class 5A Power Rankings. Earlier in the season, Barbe lost to Sam Houston and recently defeated them 8-2. Jack Walker leads the pitching staff with an 8-0 record, 0.96 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 41 2/3 innings.

No. 12 Lake Travis (Austin, TX) is 22-2-2, 8-0 in league play and No. 1 in Texas 6A. They have won their last 8 games.

New to the poll is No. 13 Valley Christian (San Jose, CA) which kicked off its season with 5 straight wins. The Warriors have outscored opponents, 55-5.

No. 14 Friendswood (TX) is 19-0 and ranked No. 1 in Texas 5A. In an 8-1 win over Baytown Sterling (TX), C Dylan Maxcey blasted a 3-run homer and a grand slam in the game.

No. 15 Malvern Prep (Malvern, PA) has outscored opponents, 102-26 enroute to an 8-0 record. Frank Oschell (Duke) is 3-0 with 23 strikeouts in 12 innings. He’s allowed just one run. Lonnie White is hitting .519 with 4 doubles, 3 home runs and 16 runs scored.

No. 16 Baylor (Chattanooga, TN) is 10-2 and has won five games in a row. Patrick Johnson tossed 6 of the 7 innings in a 9-0 win over McMinn County (TN). He allowed three hits and struck out 8.

Jay Dill and Henry Godbout combined for a two-hit shutout over Christian Academy of Knoxville to win 3-0. Dill allowed two hits and struck out 8 in five innings. Godbout came in for relief and fanned two in two hitless innings.

No. 17 De La Salle (Concord, CA) is 5-1. The only loss has been to Granada, 6-5.

No. 18 Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls, OH) is 5-0. Pitcher Ryan Piech has a 2-0 record with a 1.00 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 7 innings. Leading the offense is Jack Armsey (South Carolina Upstate) with a .778 batting average and 5 RBI, junior Henry Kaczmar with a .636 batting average, 1 home run, 1 triple and 10 RBI and sophomore Joey Canzoni with a .545 batting average, 2 doubles, 1 triple and 4 RBI.

No. 19 Auburn (AL) is 25-2. Recently the Tigers defeated nationally ranked Carrollton (GA), 11-1. Riley Austin went 3-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBI while Ryan Austin went 2-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBI in that game.

No. 20 St. Xavier (Louisville, KY) is 10-0 and has played teams from Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky during the early part of the season. Ten pitchers on the staff have made appearances in games with 7 claiming wins.

No. 21 Carrollton (GA) has a 23-2 record after losing a game to nationally ranked Auburn (AL). Top pitchers include Eli Runyan (6-0, 0.63 ERA), Colton Cosper (5-1, 1.35 ERA), Cade Cosper (3-0, 2 SV, 0.97 ERA) and Connor Herriott (5-1, 1 SV, 1.44 ERA).

Leading the offense is Parker Willis (.412, 27 runs scored), Bear Madliak (.395, 6 HR, 20 RBI) and Ace Williamson (.386, 26 RBI).

No. 23 Owasso (OK) is 20-3 with an 8-2 district record. Top pitchers are Brennan Phillips (5-1, 1.24 ERA, 85 K, 34 IP) and Jackson Farrell (5-1, 0.41 ERA, 47 K, 34 IP).

No. 24 Ronald Reagan (San Antonio, TX) is 23-3 and 10-1 in district play. They are ranked No. 2 in the Texas 6A division.

New to the poll at No. 25 is Gregory-Portland (TX) at 23-1-1 and ranked second in the Texas 5A division. Malachi Lott leads the pitching staff with a 7-0 record, 1.25 ERA, 13 walks and 62 strikeouts in 39.1 innings.

No. 26 Bryant (AR) is 15-1 with recent wins over Little Rock Central, 7-2, Little Rock Southwest, 5-0 and Chabot, 7-2.

No. 27 Buchanan (Clovis, CA) is 7-1 with wins over Sunnyside (CA), 12-2 and Tulare Western (CA), 9-0. The Bears have moved up in the rankings with recent upsets to highly regarded California powerhouses.

No. 28 Doral Academy (Doral, FL) is 16-3-1. Doral recently defeated Calvary Christian Academy (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), 5-4. Jake Golrelich pitched three innings and gave up no hits, struck out three to pick up his third victory of the year. Adrian Santana produced two hits and 1 RBI, Manny Marin stroked two hits and scored one run, while Michael Torres had a hit with 2 RBI in the game.

Calvary Christian Academy fell to No. 29 and is 15-3-1 for the season.

No. 30 Grayson (Loganville, GA) is 20-3 and heads into its final regional series against Brookwood before they meet up with nationally No. 1 ranked Buford (GA).

Teams that fell out of the Top 30 include Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, CA), Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, CA), Calvary Christian (Clearwater, FL), Red Land (Lewisberry, PA) and Millard West (Omaha, NE).
