Collegiate Baseball Div 1 Poll 5-8-17

OREGON ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL 

TUCSON, Ariz. — Oregon St. (38-4, 21-3 Pac-12) is ranked No. 1 for the ninth straight week in Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Division I poll presented by Big League Chew bubble gum. 

The Beavers swept a 3-game series at home against California and have won five in a row. Oregon St. leads the nation with a 1.99 ERA and the pitching staff has struck out 353 batters with 111 walks. The Beavers have only allowed 13 stolen bases over 42 games.

Poll Notes: In key series over the past weekend, Louisville swept a 3-game series at Notre Dame, Texas Tech. won two of three at West Virginia, Auburn was swept three games at home by Alabama, Kentucky lost two of three at home to Georgia, Mississippi St. won two of three at Texas A&M, Texas Christian swept a 3-game series at home against Texas, Florida swept a 3-game series at home against Mississippi, Louisiana St. won two of three at home against South Carolina, Stanford won two of three at Arizona St., St. John’s won two of three at Georgetown, Southern Mississippi won three straight at home against Florida Atlantic and Arizona swept a 3-game series at home against Washington.

Several teams have been red-hot, including Louisville (11 straight wins), Florida (9), Brigham Young (9), Southern Mississippi (7) and North Carolina (6).

Five teams dropped out of the top 30 this week in Maryland (2-2), Michigan (2-1), Florida Atlantic (0-3), Texas A&M (2-2) and Washington (0-3). New to the top 30 are Arizona (4 straight wins), Nebraska (5 wins in a row), Loyola Marymount, UCLA and Coastal Carolina (5 consecutive wins).

National Players Of The Week

• OF Tyler Tharp, Virginia Military Institute: Tharp hit 4 home runs with 6 RBI and 6 runs scored as he went 9-for-17.
• RHP Kyle Wright, Vanderbilt: Wright struck out a career-high 13 batters against Missouri as he fanned at least one batter in all nine innings of a complete game. He only allowed three hits and one walk.
• LHP JP Sears, The Citadel: Sears struck out 13 batters during a 9-inning complete game as he only surrendered two hits and two walks against East Tennessee St.
• LHP/1B Brendan McKay, Louisville: McKay only allowed an infield single over eight innings of work as he struck out eight during a 2-0 win over Notre Dame.
• 1B/3B Christian Hicks, Florida: Hicks belted three home runs with 6 RBI as he went 9-for-19 at the plate.
• SS Camden Duzenack, Dallas Baptist: Duzenack hit three home runs with 10 RBI. All 10 of his RBI were in 2-out situations. He posted a team-high 1.000 slugging percentage and totaled 16 bases. He also was perfect defensively as he converted all 24 of his chances on the week.
• RHP Max Carter, CSU Bakersfield: Carter retired the first 20 Northern Colorado batters he faced before a single was hit in the seventh during a 6-0 win for the Roadrunners. Overall, he gave up three hits, struck out nine and walked one.
