PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (June 18, 2012) BISHOP GORMAN (NV) H.S. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NATIONAL POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) remains No. 1 in the nation in the final 2012 National High School Poll by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, bringing the Gaels full circle as they were the pre-season No. 1 team. In the final state tournament games of the season, both Carroll (Corpus Christi, TX) and Martin (Arlington, TX) were upset in the Texas 5A semi-finals. Carroll lost a heartbreaker to A&M Consolidated, 2-1. This was Carroll’s third straight trip to the 5A state championships. The Tigers won it all in 2010, but have lost in the semi-finals twice now. They fell to No. 18 in the poll. Martin was defeated by Cypress Ranch (Houston, TX), 6-0. Martin fell to No. 19 in the poll, ending with a 36-6-1 record. Cypress Ranch went on to capture the Texas 5A state title by defeating A&M Consolidated 4-1 and moved into the poll at No. 10. Also new to the poll is Newbury Park (Newbury Park, CA) at No. 11 which won the CIF Southern Section Division I. Rockwall-Heath (Rockwall, TX) is No. 12 after defeating Cleburne, 10-1 for the Texas 4A state title. Grand Street Campus (Brooklyn, NY) moves into the poll at No. 21 after defeating George Washington, 2-1 for the PSAL Division A championship. No. 22 is Lake Braddock (Burke, VA) which captured the Virginia 3A state title with a 4-0 win over Kellam. They ended their season with a 28-3 record. Falling from the poll are Harvard-Westlake, CA 24-5-1; JW North, CA 25-6; Spanish Fork, UT 22-5; Broken Arrow, OK 35-5; and Owasso, OK 30-5.
