College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (Jan. 23, 2012) BISHOP GORMAN (NEV.) H.S. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL'S NATIONAL PRE-SEASON POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — Loaded with talent and experience, Bishop Gorman High School, Las Vegas, Nev. (35-4) is ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball's 2012 Pre-Season National High School Poll. The Gaels hope to capture their 7th consecutive Nevada state championship this year. They return 19 players of which 15 are seniors and six have already made NCAA Division I commitments. In total, Head Coach Nick Day, expects that all 15 seniors will play at some level of college and up to 10 may play at the Division I level. Leading the team are Louisville Slugger All-Americans 3B/RHP Joey Gallo (Louisiana State), RHP Cody Roper (UNLV) and OF/RHP John Sewald (Arizona State). Last season Gallo set offensive records for home runs in a season (25) and RBI (78). Roper was 10-0 with a 0.56 ERA while Sewald led the team with 42 stolen bases. Offensively the Gaels return a combined 61 home runs from a team that hit 78 last spring. They also will have speed with Sewald and others who can run the bases. On the mound, the Gaels have experience and variety on their pitching staff. Roper and Gallo both throw in the mid-90s while Evan Dunn threw a shutout in the state championship. LHP Adam Wozniak had a great summer in American Legion, going 10-2 and throwing acomplete game in the Legion World Series tournament. Three other seniors and three juniors also could get innings. Bishop Gorman is scheduled to play in the USA Baseball National Invitational in late March, so they will have a chance to prove their mettle as the top team in the USA.
