Broken Arrow (OK) H.S. No. 1 In Easton Sports National Poll TUCSON, Ariz. — The high school season has come to a close, and a few teams shuffled around in the final 2011 Easton Sports National High School poll. Broken Arrow, OK remains as the No. 1 team and the first five teams in the poll stayed the same while some teams moved up. No. 10 George Washington (New York, NY) beat Tottenville, 4-2 to capture the PSAL Class A title game. Fernelys Sanchez made a great grab in the outfield to prevent Tottenville from scoring and secure the win. Suspended George Washington coach, Steve Mandl, was there in the crowd to watch his team’s victory. He was suspended by the league for one year after finding him guilty of illegally recruiting a player. No. 11 Brazoswood (Clute, TX) won its third Texas 5A state championship and first since 1992. The Buccaneers scored five sixth-inning runs to defeat Lubbock Coronado, 10-3. Brazoswood advanced to the final game after William Easter hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to get past Klein in the semi-finals. No. 18 Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, NJ) fell in the poll after being stunned by Bergan Catholic, 3-1 in the NJSIAA Non-Public A tournament. Junior Tommy Burns ended the season 9-0 with 62 strikeouts in 45.2 innings. No. 19 Rider (Wichita Falls, TX) captured the Texas 4A title by beating Corpus Christi Calallen, 6-2. The Raiders scored six early runs and hung on to win. In the semi-finals, Rider beat defending champion Brenham, 3-1. Cameron Allen threw a complete game and struck out 12 Brenham batters. No. 20 Tottenville (Staten Island, NY) lost to George Washington in the title game and ended its season 22-2. No. 25 Brenham, TX lost in the semi-finals to eventual champions Rider and ended it season 36-8-1. No. 26 Marist School (Atlanta, GA) defeated Whitewater, 11-5 and 8-1 to win its second consecutive Georgia 4A state championship. It’s the school’s 12th baseball championship, the most of any Georgia high school. No. 27 Gloucester Catholic (Gloucester City, NJ) beat Newark Academy, 14-2 to win the non-Public B state title. The Rams finished their season 31-2 and won 20 games by the 10-run rule this season. No. 28 Bingham (South Jordan, UT) rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat American Fork, 10-6 to win the Utah 5A state title. Bingham also was the only team in Utah to defeat Spanish Fork this season. This was the school’s 20th state baseball title in its history. Dropped from the poll are Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, CA), Mater Dei, CA and Sierra Vista, NV
