ST. FRANCIS (CALIF.) H.S.
NO. 1 IN EASTON SPORTS NATIONAL PRE-SEASON POLL
TUCSON , Ariz. — After
outscoring opponents 42-5 and recording 5 shutouts, St. Francis High School (
Mountain View , CA ) has been ranked No. 1 in the first
regular season Easton High School National Poll.
The Lancers are 8-0 to start the season.
No. 2 is Sumrall , MS
(6-1). The Bobcats stumbled in their season opener
losing 5-2 to Forrest County Agricultural, but has since bounced back with six
straight wins, beating Petal 7-6 and Oak Grove 3-1 and recording two shutouts.
In the game against Oak Grove, Luke Lowery threw a complete game with 18
strikeouts. Versus Lumberton
, Tyler Simmons threw a no-hitter in five innings for a
14-0 win. He struck out 11.
No. 3 Spanish Fork, UT (2-0) beat
Cottonwood ,
UT , 4-1 in the season opener.
Juniors Hayden Nielsen and Kayden Porter combined to strikeout 13. In 15-0 rout
of Layton , UT , pitchers Brady Corless and Matt Nelson
combined for a one-hitter. Three players went 7-for-7 in the game.
Owasso , OK is No. 4,
starting its season with two high scoring games, a 20-2 rout over Grove, OK and
24-0 win over Berryhill ,
OK . The Rams are 4-1 with one loss
to Lake
Wales , FL
by one run.
Edison ( Huntington Beach , CA ) is No. 5 after starting the season with
five straight wins, including an 8-2 victory over Long Beach Wilson.
No. 6 is Chatsworth , CA
. The Chancellors won the Easton Showdown tournament
after overcoming a five-run deficit to defeat Valencia , 8-5.
3B Ryan Escobar hit a three-run triple in a five-run sixth inning. Chatsworth is
5-0 on the season.
Fort Bend
Clements ( Sugar Land ,
TX ), ranked seventh with a 12-1 record, won 11
straight games to open the season before losing 8-3 to Langham Creek (
Houston , TX ).
Catholic (
Baton Rouge , LA ) is at No. 8 with a 10-1 record. In the
season opener, Catholic defeated Barbe, 3-2. Their only loss is to Airline,
10-3. Chris Sciambra (LSU signee) has hit five home runs through the first 11
games of the season.
No. 9 is Ardrey Kell ( Charlotte
,
NC ). They started the season with
six straight wins.
No. 10 Gulliver Prep ( Miami
, FL ) has a 9-2 record which includes wins over
Archbishop McCarthy, 9-2, Westminster Christian, 11-1, Pope (GA), 8-3 and
Parkview (GA), 11-1. Gulliver Prep has a .468 team batting average through 11
games.
Bryant , AR
, ranked No. 11, has three straight wins. They have
outscored opponents 34-10. Pitcher Dylan Cross has recorded two wins with 10
strikeouts in 10 innings. He’s also hitting .667 with one double and 7 RBI.
No. 12 Pace, FL started with a 6-2 record. Junior SS Addison Russell is hitting
.462 with 2 home runs and 12 RBI.
No. 13 Cuthbertson ( Waxhaw
, NC ) began with two shutouts, but lost its
third game against Weddington, 1-0, in a pitcher’s duel.
Archbishop Mitty (
San Jose , CA ) dropped down to No. 17 after being ranked
in the top 10 for the pre-season. Mitty lost the Hazlett Memorial Tournament to
Wilcox, 3-0, but came back to defeat Jesuit ( Sacramento
, CA) and Elk Grove
, CA . Pitcher Tyler
Davis is 2-0. The team has a 4-1-1 record.
No. 19 is Flanagan ( Pembroke Pines
,
FL ) has a 11-2 record. They are
4-1 in conference play and recently beat three Georgia
teams (Columbus, Marist and Wesleyan) at the
Jacksonville Tournament of Champions.
No. 20 Hamilton (
Chandler , AZ ) won the Desert Vista Tournament with a
5-1 record and are 7-2 overall. Mitch Nay is hitting .500 with 3 home runs and
14 RBI. Jake Andrews has two victories, both over Mesa Mountain View while Derek
Hill threw a one-hit shutout over Perry.
No. 21 Archbishop McCarthy (Southwest Ranches, FL) opened its season with a loss
to Gulliver Prep, but currently is on a seven-game win streak.
Weatherford , TX
, ranked No. 24, ticked off 13 straight wins before
suffering a loss this season. They have posted a 16-3 record.
Bishop Amat (
La Puente , CA ) is No. 25 after dropping its first two
games of the season, but coming back with a three-game win streak. They are 3-2,
playing a tough schedule.
Pelham , AL
, ranked No. 28, won 10 straight games before suffering
a loss. They have a 13-4 record. Recently, Pelham dropped two games to Cullman.
In the season opener against Hillcrest ( Tuscaloosa , AL
), pitcher Trevor Fitts threw a one-hitter, striking out
12.
Dropping past No. 30 is La Cueva (Albuquerque, NM) 3-2; Rancho (Las Vegas, NV)
2-2; Brenham, TX 9-4-1; Jesuit (Tampa, FL) 7-2; Rockwall-Heath (Heath, TX)
12-2-2; and Carroll (Corpus Christi, TX) 10-4.
