College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Saturday (June 9, 2007) SETON HALL PREP NO. 1 IN EASTON SPORTS COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, NJ) captured its state title and remains the No. 1 team in the Easton High School National Poll with a 32-1 record. The Pirates defeated St. Joseph’s of Metuchen, 10-1. Rick Porcello (10-0) threw a complete game, allowing only one earned run on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Joseph DeMarzo was 3-for-4 with five RBI in the game. Woodrow Wilson (Long Beach, CA) moves up to No. 2 after rolling over Anaheim Canyon, 5-1 to win the CIF southern Section Division I championship. It was the school’s first baseball championship since 1950. No. 3 Foy H. Moody (Corpus Christi, TX) moved up in the poll after defeating Mesquite Poteet, 9-1 for the 4A Texas state championship. No. 5 South Caldwell (Hudson, NC) won the 4A state title and No. 5 Chatsworth, Calif. won the CIF City Division, 2-1 over Reseda Cleveland. The Chancellors hit 74 home runs this season, one shy of the state record. No. 8 Calvert Hall College (Baltimore, MD) went undefeated this season and won its third consecutive MIAA A conference championship. The team broke the Maryland record for wins in a season. No. 9 Cottonwood (Salt Lake City, UT) won its third straight state championship. They had 19 straight victories to close their season. No. 10 James Monroe (Bronx, NY) lost the PSAL title to Tottenville. No. 20 Bishop Ward (Kansas City, KS) won its fifth consecutive 4A state title. They have a 39-game wins streak dating from last season. If they win the first three games next year, they will match the state record of 42 straight wins. No. 22 Dunwoody, GA won the 4A state championship by sweeping perennial powerhouse Columbia, 7-4 and 6-0. No. 23 Cy Fair (Houston, TX) won its first 5A Texas state championship by beating Harlingen South, 6-1. No. 27 Valley Christian (San Jose, CA) won the CIF Central Coast Section. No. 29 Elkhorn, Neb. beat Millard West, 2-1 for the state title, and No. 30 Zachary, LA defeated Capt. Schreve, 7-0 for the state championship.
