College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (May 7, 2007) SETON HALL PREP NO. 1 IN EASTON SPORTS COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, NJ) continues its rule as the No. 1 team in the Easton High School National Poll. At 19-0 on the season, the Pirates have remained the top team in the state of New Jersey. In the last four games, they have outscored opponents 45-5 with two shutouts thrown by pitchers Evan Daniele and Rick Porcello. State playoffs have begun, and there have been a few upsets already causing big swings in the poll Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. was eliminated from its tournament by Flanagan, 7-6. Flanagan is in the final four for Florida’s 6A title and has captured the district title for the fifth time in seven years. The team set a school record with 54 home runs in 29 games. Every starting position player has at least two home runs on the season. Gardens dropped down to No. 16 in the poll with Flanagan moving back in at No. 30. Northwest Rankin (Brandon, MS) dropped down to No. 28 after getting bumped out of the state playoffs by Madison Central. Riverside (Greer, SC) dropped out of the poll after losing its bid for a fourth 3A state title in five years to A.C. Flora, 4-3. The Warriors ended its season with a 25-7 record and three of the seven losses came from Flora. Katy, Tex. has moved into the No. 2 spot as they have maintain the No. 1 ranking in Texas and the Houston area for much of the season. The team enters the area section of the playoffs with 29 wins on the season. No. 3 James Madison (Vienna, VA) has top billing in their area as they ready for the final stretch of the season. In the last two games, Madison has 10-run ruled its opponents, defeating South Lakes, 10-0 and Marshall, 11-1. James Monroe (Bronx, NY) moved to No. 4 with an undefeated record. Delig Soto continues to tear up the field with his bat, and pitcher Nolan Herrera has posted an 8-0 record. No. 5 Lexington Catholic (Lexington, KY) remains No.1 in Kentucky with only one loss on the season. Lakewood, Calif. has been one of the top teams in the Los Angeles metro area and moves up to No. 6 in the poll. No. 7 Brophy College Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.) is 3-0 in the state playoffs so far with two wins being by mercy rule. The Broncos 29 wins tied the school record for victories in a season. The team has hit 52 home runs which breaks last season’s home run total of 45. No. 8 Woodrow Wilson (Long Beach, Calif.) remains as one of the top teams in the Los Angeles area with a 26-3 record. Pace, Fla. moves up to No. 9 as the team has maintained the top spot in its division in Florida for most of the season. No. 10 Barbe (Lake Charles, LA) and No. 11 Foy H. Moody (Corpus Christi, TX) both remain as the No. 1 teams in their respective states. Barbe won its first playoff game with a no-hitter. Moody is led by four players hitting over .400 in Ronnie Flores (.522), Joey Mendoza (.495), Josaiah Rodriguez (.425) and Rudy Flores (.458). New to the poll is No. 15 Goddard, Kan., which enters with a 14-1 record and top billing in Kansas. The team recently captured the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail league title for the second year in a row. Pitching has been the strong point with Logan Watkins (4-0, 0.71 ERA) and Jordan Jennings (4-0, 0.00 ERA). Derek Norris has led hitters with a .464 batting average, 13 RBI and three home runs. No. 24 West Lauderdale, Miss. moves into the poll with a 35-1 record and in position to win the 4A North State baseball championship. In the opening game of the tournament, Paxton Pace pitched a complete game, striking out 17 and allowing just two hits to defeat Neshoba Central, 2-0. Punahou (Honolulu, HI) comes in at No. 26 with a 16-1 record in their league and 26-3 overall. They have been the No. 1 ranked team in Hawaii all season. No. 29 Dunwoody, Ga. has won its last five games by a total of 85-0, including three no-hitters. Chris Epps has been the top pitcher for the team and has posted a 20-0 record on the mound over the last two seasons.
