College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Wednesday (June 7, 2006) THE WOODLANDS H.S. NO. 1 IN EASTON SPORTS COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — The Woodlands (The Woodlands, Tex.) remains No. 1 in the Easton National High School Poll with a 36-1 overall record. The Highlanders are still working their way through the state tournament. They recently beat Carrollton Smith, 8-1 and 2-0 and Klein Collins 4-3 and 1-0 . In the 2-0 victory over Carollton Smith, RHP Kyle Drabek pitched a no-hitter striking out 19. They were slated to play Midland in the state semifinals in Round Rock, Tex. No. 2 Jackson (Mills Creek, Wash.) claimed the 4A state championship defeating Auburn 7-1. The ran the table going undefeated in all 27 games. No. 3 James Monroe (Bronx, NY) will face rival George Washington for the PSAL A title. Homer (Homer, Mich.) comes in at No. 8 and will enter their state playoffs undefeated with 30 wins. Lakewood H.S., Calif. moves in at No. 10 after defeating Agoura H.S. 2-1 for the CIF championship in Los Angeles. All California schools except Bellarmine Prep lost in the playoffs or title games. After a great run through the year, Brenham lost in the semi-finals and dropped to No. 11. No. 12 Bishop Carroll Catholic (Wichita, Kan.) ended up third place in the state. No. 16 North Forsyth (Winston-Salem, NC) lost two in the regionals to bow out of the state tournament after going undefeated the entire season. Brownsburg, Ind. comes in at No. 17 and is making another run for its state title. Bellefountaine, Ohio fell to No. 19 after losing 3-0 to Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin in the semi-finals. Moving ahead of them at No. 18 is Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) which eventually won the Division II title defeating Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin 3-0. It was Walsh Jesuit’s third title since 1999. No. 24 Christian Brothers (Memphis, Tenn.) lost in the semi-finals of its state playoffs and ended its season 40-3. Arundel (Gambrills, Md.) comes in at No. 25 after winning its 10th state title overall and first since 2001. Tyler Hibbs and Corey Overholtzer combined for four hits to defeated C. Milton Wright 5-3. Elder (Cincinnati, Ohio) dropped to No. 26 after being upset by Miamisburg in the regional finals. This is the first time in 35 years that a Cincinnati team has not been a part of the state baseball finals. No. 29 is Lassiter (Marietta, Ga.) that claimed the 5A state championship by sweeping Kell HS 10-9 and 9-5 in a best-of-three series. Caravel Academy (Bear, Del.) moves in at No. 30 after defeating William Penn 2-1 for the state title. Dropping from the poll were Joliet Catholic, IL 30-5; Goddard, KS 21-3; El Camino Real, CA 26-6; Silverado, NV 33-5; Petal, MS 33-5; Torrey Pines, CA 28-7; and William Penn, DE 22-2.
