College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Tuesday (June 3, 2003) CHATSWORTH H.S. NO. 1 IN EASTON SPORTS COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL TUCSON, Ariz. Chatsworth High School (Chatsworth, Calif.) has been ranked No. 1 in Easton Sports National High School poll with a glistening 30-1 record. Chatsworth, which features a remarkable pitching staff that has tossed 10 shutouts and three 1-hitters, has held opponents to a .196 batting average. RHP John Cassel has led the way with a 13-0 record and six shutouts. He has a 1.35 ERA with 102 strikeouts in 83 innings. RHP/OF Jason Dominguez is 10-0 on the year with a 2.48 ERA. He has struck out 82 batters in 65 innings. Offensively, he is hitting .444 with 8 homers and 44 RBIs. Another player who has been superb this season is OF Keith Renno who leads the team with 51 hits, runs scored (46) and stolen bases (13). On offense, Chatsworth is hitting .364 with 38 homers (one shy of the school record of 39). The team has also hit 65 doubles and 14 triples. Couple this with a microscopic team ERA of 2.28 along with a fabulous defense, and it allows a team to roll to a 30-1 record in rugged southern California competition. "This ball club is very similar to our championship ball club of two years ago when we went 31-2," said Head Coach Tom Meusborn, now in his 14th year at Chatsworth. "We have very good pitching, solid defense and an excellent offense with power. I think the key for us is that players are unselfish and put the team first. That makes for great team chemistry. They play very hard every game."
