College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (April 23, 2012) KENTUCKY, BAYLOR NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — Kentucky (35-6) and Baylor (35-7) have been ranked No. 1 in the latest NCAA Division I baseball poll by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.Kentucky won two of three against previously No. 1 ranked Louisiana St. over the past weekend and are first in the Southeastern Conference with a 13-5 record. Baylor swept a 3-game series against Texas A&M. The Bears are in the midst of a 24-game winning streak, the longest in program history, and lead the Big 12 Conference with a perfect 18-0 record. The 18-game conference winning streak is the longest in the league’s 16-year history. Texas previouly held the record of 17 set in 2010. It marks the first time in history the Bears have been ranked No. 1 in baseball. The two longest winning streaks in NCAA Division I this year belong to Baylor (24) and Kentucky (22). Poll Notes: In key top 30 action during the past week, Florida St. swept a 3-game series against Miami (Fla.), Oregon St. took two of three from UCLA and Stanford swept a 3-game series against Arizona St. Several teams have been hot lately. Oklahoma has won eight in a row, Rice eight of its last nine, Purdue 11 of its last 12, Texas Christian nine of its last 10 and Central Florida 10 of its last 11. One team fell out of the top 30 this week in Missouri St. (2-2 last week). New to the poll is Clemson (24-17) which posted a 4-0 record last week with a 3-game sweep of Maryland. The Tigers are 12-9 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, tied for fourth. The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll.
