College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (March 26, 2012) FLORIDA NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Florida (22-2) has been ranked No. 1 in the latest NCAA Division I baseball poll by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. The Gators, ranked No. 1 seven consecutive polls, beat South Carolina two of three in Columbia, S.C. Poll Notes: Several other teams have been impressive. Kentucky (24-1) beat Tennessee two of three on the road. The Wildcats had their record 22-game winning streak snapped in the first game of a 3-game series at Tennessee. Kentucky has a 5-1 record in Southeastern Conference games. South Carolina slipped from sixth to 14th this week after losing six of their last eight and five of their first six SEC contests. However, the past two weekend series have been against No. 1 Florida and No. 2 Kentucky. Teams on win streaks include St. Louis (13 in a row), Coastal Carolina (9 straight), Louisville and Baylor (7 in a row). UCLA has won 15 of its last 16 games while Texas has won 8 of its last 9. Five teams fell out of the top 30 this week, including Stetson (lost 5 of last 6), Texas Christian (1-3 last week), Georgia Tech. (1-3), Appalachian St. (1-2) and Texas St. (1-3). New to the poll this week is Auburn (won 2 of 3 against Louisiana St., 15-9 overall and 4-2 in the SEC), St. Louis (19-5), Sam Houston St. (14-9, swept 3-game series against Texas St.), Coastal Carolina (19-6), and Missouri St. (19-6). The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season. (Top 30 Agate Follows)
