FLORIDA NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Florida (15-1) has been ranked No. 1 in the latest NCAA Division I baseball poll by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

The Gators, ranked No. 1 five consecutive polls, have won 13 in a row. Over the past weekend, Florida swept a 3-game series against Florida Gulf Coast. Florida is now off to its best start in school history through 16 games, surpassing the 1952 squad that started 14-1-1.

Wake Forest has won 13 straight and entered the poll at No. 24 after sweeping a 3-game series against Maryland. UCLA has won 10 consecutive games, including a 3-game sweep at Georgia over the past weekend while Florida St. has also won 10 straight. In top 30 games over the past weekend, Cal. St. Fullerton took two of three at Texas A&M, Stanford took two of three at home against Rice, North Carolina swept a 3-game series against Clemson and N.C. State won two of three against Georgia Tech. Three teams fell out of the top 30 in Clemson (1-3 last week), Maryland (2-3) and Gonzaga (0-3). New to the poll this week is N.C. State (11-3), Wake Forest (14-4), and Texas St. (11-4).

The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S" NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

C Mike Zunino, Florida: Zunino had a monster week as he belted 4 home runs and knocked in 11 runs for the Gators over five games last week as he went 7-for-18 at the plate.

RHP Eddie Orozco, U.C. Riverside: Orozco struck out 15 batters during a 1-0 win over Sacramento St. He had a perfect game heading into the seventh inning and settled for a 9-inning complete game 3-hitter. The 15 strikeouts tied a school record during the school’s NCAA Division I era.

RHP Daniel Minor, Texas A&M Corpus Christi: Minor struck out 14 batters during a 1-0 win over Texas San Antonio. He allowed four hits and one walk for the complete-game shutout.

2B Robbie Rea, Oklahoma St.: Rea belted 3 home runs, 3 doubles and knocked in 10 runs over four games last week as he went 7-for-16. He accounted for nearly the entire total in one game against Alabama A&M as he went 5-for-5 with 3 homers, 2 doubles, 9 RBIs and 16 total bases (tied Big 12 record). He became just the 10th Cowboy in history to homer three times in a game. His 9 RBIs were one short of the OSU record of 10 collected by Jason Heath against Kansas St. in 1993.
