College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper

For Immediate Release: Monday (May 10, 2010)

TEXAS NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Texas has been ranked No. 1 for the third straight week in the latest Collegiate Baseball newspaper NCAA Division I baseball poll.

The Longhorns (41-8) have won 23 of their last 24 games. Over the past weekend, Texas took two of three at Kansas St.

Poll Notes: Several other teams have been exceptional. Coastal Carolina has won 22 of its last 23 games, Cal. St. Fullerton 12 of 13, Southern Mississippi 11 in a row and San Diego 7 straight. Four teams fell out of the poll this week, including Oregon (0-4 last week), Portland (1-3), New Mexico St. (0-4) and Arizona (1-3). New to the poll is Vanderbilt (35-13, won two of three at Louisiana St.), Fresno St. (30-20, won four straight at New Mexico St.), Southern Mississippi (29-17), and Clemson (31-17, won 6 straight).

The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S" NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

RHP Kyle Blair, San Diego: Blair took a no-hitter 8 2/3 innings while striking out a season-high 15 batters during a 2-0 win over Portland. The no-hitter was broken up by Kris Kauppila who delivered a double. Blair only allowed three base runners all via the walk through the first eight innings. He was one strikeout away from the school record.

OF Gauntlett Eldemire, Ohio: Eldemire had a monster week as he delivered 7 home runs and knocked in 11 runs over five games last week. He also scored 15 runs and delivered 14 hits as he registered a 1.800 slugging percentage.

SS Sean Allaire, Central Connecticut St.: Allaire belted 6 home runs with 18 RBIs over 6 games. He had 15 hits and scored 15 runs as he hit .517. He had a slugging percentage of 1.310 as 11 of his 15 hits went for extra bases (6 homers, 5 doubles).

LHP Mike Goemans, Canisius: Goemans fired a 1-hit complete game 4-0 win over Manhattan as he retired the final 19 batters of the game. The only hit was a single by Austin Sheffield in the second inning as he struck out 5 batters.

RHP Brady Rodgers, Arizona St.: Rodgers was nearly unhittable during a 13-1 win over Arizona. Over eight innings, he gave up only 2 hits and no runs as he retired 21 consecutive batters at one point and struck out 7.

3B Grant Buckner, West Virginia: Buckner belted 4 home runs and knocked in 14 runs over three games against Notre Dame. He was 8-for-12 at the plate, hit 2 doubles, scored 7 runs and had 21 total bases.

OF Dusty Robinson, Fresno St.: Robinson cracked 4 home runs and knocked in 12 runs as he went 12 for 21 at the plate during four games last week. He also scored 10 runs, had two doubles and one triple.

1B/DH Alex Gee, Eastern Illinois: Gee hit 4 home runs with 9 RBI last week over three games. He was 6-for-13 at the plate and scored 5 runs.
