PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: Monday (April 5, 2010)

ARIZONA STATE NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona St. is ranked No. 1 for the fourth straight time in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's NCAA Division I baseball poll.

The Sun Devils (25-1, 5-1 Pac-10 Conference) won two of three at Oregon over the past weekend. ASU finally had its season-long winning streak snapped at 24 games as Oregon beat the Sun Devils in the second game of the 3-game series, 6-5 in 12 innings.

No. 2 UCLA (23-1) also had its lengthy winning streak stopped at 22 games. Stanford knocked off the Bruins in the second game of their 3-game series, 8-4.

Both winning streaks by Arizona St. and UCLA were the best starts in school history.

Poll Notes: Several other schools have been red hot. New Mexico St. (22-10) enters the top 30 with an 11-game winning streak. Miami (Fla.) and Rice have each won 5 straight. Louisville, Coastal Carolina, U.C. Irvine, and N.C. Charlotte have won 4 in a row. Six teams fell out of the top 30 this week in Arizona (4 losses in a row), Pittsburgh (1-2 last week), The Citadel (3-2), Texas A&M (1-2-1), Stanford (1-3) and Wichita St. (3-2). New to the poll this week is New Mexico St., Rice (17-12), Cal. St. Fullerton (won 5 of last 6), N.C. Charlotte, N.C. State (won 2 of 3 over Virginia), and California (swept 3-game series against Arizona).
