ARIZONA STATE NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona St. is ranked No. 1 for the first time this season in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's NCAA Division I baseball poll.

The Sun Devils (15-0) replaced Louisiana St. at the top spot after the Tigers lost two of three at home over the past weekend to Kansas while Arizona St. swept a 3-game series at home against Auburn.

Poll Notes: Several other schools have been red hot. UCLA is unbeaten at 13-0 after knocking off Oklahoma, Mississippi St. and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi over the past weekend. The Bruins are off to their best start to any season dating back to 1955 and the longest overall streak since 1969. Virginia beat Florida St. two of three games in Tallahassee, Fla. Texas has won six in a row and 12 of its last 13. Georgia Tech. has captured six straight in rolling to a 13-1 overall record. Clemson won three straight over N.C. State as the Tigers sit at 13-1. Other teams in the top 30 with one loss include S.E. Louisiana (15-1), Vanderbilt (14-1), Alabama (12-1) and Virginia Military Institute (14-1). Three teams dropped out of the top 30 this week in East Carolina (1-3 last week), Washington St. (1-2) and N.C. State (1-3). New to the poll this week are Kansas (11-4), Texas A&M (13-3) and Virginia Military Institute (14-1). The Keydets lead the nation with a .381 batting average and have belted 35 home runs over 15 games.

"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S" NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

RHP Taylor Jungmann, Texas: Jungmann struck out 17 Iowa batters over 7 1/3 innings as he allowed one run on five hits with one walk. The 17 strikeouts was a career-high and fell just two short of the school record of 19 set by Burt Hooton in a 13-inning game against Texas Tech. in 1971 and tied by Eric Stone in a 9-inning game against Louisiana-Lafayette in 1988.

LHP Mario Hollands, U.C. Santa Barbara: Hollands struck out a school-record tying 16 batters during an 8-1, 9-inning complete game win over Northern Illinois. He gave up five hits and walked only two.

RHP Trevor Bauer & RHP Gerrit Cole, UCLA: Both pitchers were nothing short of sensational. Cole struck out a career-high 15 batters through 7 2/3 innings during an 11-3 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. One day later, Bauer fanned 15 Mississippi St. batters in a 5-2 win by the Bruins. Bauer only allowed three hits through 8-plus innings and walked two.

1B Jordan Ballard, Virginia Military Institute: Ballard hit 6 home runs in five games last week. Incredibly, he had 14 RBIs in 14 at-bats as he scored 7 runs. He went 8-for-14 at the plate and had a 1.929 slugging percentage.

OF Jabari Henry, Florida International: Henry belted 5 home runs in five games last week (two games against Boston College and three games against Rutgers) as he went 9-for-18 and drove in 17 runs. Two of his home runs were grand slams. He also scored 9 runs and racked up 25 total bases. If that wasn't enough, he drew three walks, stole two bases and threw out a runner from left field trying to stretch a single into a double.

DH/1B A.J. Kirby-Jones, Tennessee Tech.: Kirby-Jones cracked 5 home runs and hit 2 doubles as he collected 13 RBIs over six games last week. He went 10-for-19 at the plate and also drew 7 walks.
