"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S" NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

RHP Jason Mitchell, Texas-Arlington: Mitchell had a remarkable game against Missouri St. as he struck out 18 batters over nine innings, allowing no runs and one walk while throwing 134 pitches (85 strikes). His 18 strikeouts broke the UT Arlington all-time record. The previous mark was 16 set by Roger Lancaster during the 1997 season. Amazingly, Mitchell got a no decision as he carried a no-hitter through 8 2/3 innings before the no-hitter was broken up as the game went five more innings with UT Arlington eventually winning, 1-0 in 14 innings. Reliever Adam Boydston pitched the remaining five innings as he struck out a career-high eight batters. Between Mitchell and Boydston, UT Arlington pitchers fanned 26 batters in the game which tied an NCAA all-time record for most strikeouts by a pitching staff in a single game. It has only happened twice before.

1B Trey Hernandez, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi: Hernandez belted 4 home runs over 4 games and knocked in 14 runs. His best game was a 2 home run effort against Nebraska with a career-high 6 RBIs as he finished 4-for-5 at the plate. He was 10-for-20 with a slugging percentage of 1.100.
