College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper

MIAMI, FLA. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Miami, Fla. (41-6) has been ranked No. 1 for the fourth straight time in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll.

The Hurricanes won two of three against Virginia Tech. over the past weekend and have now won eight of their last nine games and 12 consecutive series. Miami is hitting .334 with 76 home runs and 82 stolen bases in 47 games. The pitching staff has a 3.80 ERA with 411 strikeouts and 139 walks.

Poll Notes: Several other teams have been red hot. New Orleans has won 13 straight while LSU has captured 12 in a row and Rice 7 consecutive. Georgia, which won two of three against Vanderbilt over the past weekend, captured the regular season Southeastern Conference title. It was the Bulldogs' sixth overall SEC title in school history. Two teams fell out of the top 30 in East Carolina (0-3 last week) and Florida (2-2). New teams in the poll this week include Kentucky (swept 3-game series at Tennessee) and Southern Mississippi (won 5 in row).

The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S" NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

RHP Eric Beaulac, Le Moyne: Beaulac pitched the fifth individual no-hitter in school history during a 9-inning, 1-0 win over Rider. He struck out nine

RHP Stephen Strasburg, San Diego St.: Strasburg struck out 15 batters in an 8-1 win over Brigham Young. It marked the sixth straight contest he has finished with double digit strikeouts. Strasburg has 125 strikeouts and 11 walks in 84 1/3 innings this season.

1B Michael Harrington, College of Charleston: Harrington belted 5 homers and 11 RBIs over 5 games last week as he hit .467 (7-for-15). He also scored 8 runs and had 22 total bases.

DH/1B David Anderson, Coastal Carolina: Anderson had a monster 3-game series against High Point as he cracked 5 home runs and recorded 9 RBIs in going 8-for-15 at the plate. He also had 23 total bases in the series.
