College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: Monday (April 7, 2008)

FLORIDA ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Florida St. (28-3) has been ranked No. 1 for the first time this season in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's NCAA Division I baseball poll.

Arizona St., ranked No. 1 in the nation the last six weeks, dropped two of three at Stanford over the past weekend and slipped to third.

The Seminoles, first in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a glistening 14-1 record, have won six straight and 12 of their last 13 games. In addition, Florida St. has a team batting average of .352 and average 9.8 runs per game.

No. 2 Miami, Fla. (26-2, 12-1 in ACC) has won 13 straight and outscored opponents, 162-57 during that stretch.

Poll Notes: The past week was one of the wildest in poll history as a number of high profile teams struggled. Central Florida lost five times. Long Beach St., Virginia, and Florida each lost four games. The hottest team in the nation may be Georgia which swept a 3-game series against South Carolina and two from Clemson last week and has now won seven straight. Teams that fell out of the poll this week include Central Florida (0-5 last week), Michigan (3-2) and Coastal Carolina.

The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
