College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: (Tuesday, June 26, 2007) OREGON ST. NO. 1 IN FINAL 2007 COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — Oregon St. (49-18) finished No. 1 in the final 2007 Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I baseball poll after capturing the College World Series with a perfect 5-0 record. OSU was so dominant at the College World Series that only one of the five wins was by less than six runs in a 3-2 victory during the opener against Cal. St. Fullerton. The Beavers have now won two straight College World Series to become only the fifth school in the 61-year-history of the event to win titles in consecutive years. OSU closed out the season with 10 straight victories. When you consider the Beavers nearly didn't make the 64-team regional field after finishing sixth in the Pac-10 Conference with a 10-14 record, the accomplishment is even more amazing. Prior to the final regular season conference series at UCLA, OSU had lost seven of its last nine. But against the Bruins, the Beavers regrouped to win two of three which allowed them to make the tournament field as one of the last at-large teams chosen. Except for a 13-inning loss to Virginia in the Charlottesville, Va. Regional, OSU won every other game in the tournament as the Beavers posted an 11-1 record. The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season. (Top 30 Agate Follows)
