College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (May 21, 2007) VANDERBILT NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — Vanderbilt (46-10), winners of 14 of its last 15 games, has been ranked No. 1 in the latest Collegiate Baseball newspaper NCAA Division I baseball poll. This is the eighth poll this season Vanderbilt has been ranked No. 1 by Collegiate Baseball. The Commodores captured their first regular season Southeastern Conference title with a 22-8 record and fourth league title in school history with a 3-game sweep of Louisiana St. over the past weekend. The team finished the year as the SEC leader in batting average (.329) and finished second in team ERA (3.57). Rice (45-11) has been just as impressive. The Owls are currently riding an 18-game winning streak and have won 26 of their last 27 games. Poll Notes: In top 30 action last week, several big series were played which resulted in sweeps. Florida St. swept a 3-game series at Georgia Tech. Texas swept a 3-game series against Texas A&M. U.C. Riverside won three straight against Long Beach St. and now sits in first place in the Big West Conference with a 15-3 mark. Missouri swept a 3-game series against Oklahoma St. And Arizona St. swept a 3-game series at Oregon St. One hot team to keep your eye on is Miami, Fla. which has captured nine of its last 10 games. Three teams fell out of the top 30 this week in Cal. St. Fullerton (1-2 last week with only a 9-9 Big West record to rank fifth in the league), Stetson (1-3) and Georgia Tech. (0-3). The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season. (Top 30 Agate Follows)
