College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: Monday (April 2, 2007)

FLORIDA STATE NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Florida State University (29-2) has been ranked No. 1 for the third straight week in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll.

The Seminoles are hitting .372 as a team and are averaging 10.3 runs per game. FSU has hit 93 doubles, 12 triples and 21 home runs. Batters have been extremely disciplined at the plate with 156 walks in 31 games. The pitching staff has a 2.65 ERA and has struck out 254 batters with 92 walks.

Poll Notes: Several teams have been red hot. Coastal Carolina has won 15 straight games while Arizona has posted 11 consecutive victories, including three straight over the past weekend against defending national champion Oregon St. Prior to the series, Oregon St. was ranked second in the nation with a glistening 22-3 record. After the trio of losses, the Beavers dropped to ninth in the nation while Arizona jumped from 23rd to 15th. One other team that has been outstanding is Florida. The Gators, with seven straight wins, lead the Southeastern Conference with a 7-2 mark (18-13 overall). Mississippi St. also entered the poll this week with an 18-7 overall record. The Bulldogs knocked off highly regarded Kentucky two of three games last weekend. Two teams dropped out of the poll this week in San Diego (lost two of three against Gonzaga) and Texas St. (lost once to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi).

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
