College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: Monday (March 26, 2007)

FLORIDA STATE NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Florida State University (26-1) has been ranked No. 1 for the second straight week in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll.

The Seminoles finally saw their perfect record come to a halt as their 23-game winning streak to start the season was snapped by Jacksonville last week. FSU then reeled off three wins over the weekend against Boston College.

Florida St. is hitting .380 as a team after 27 games and are averaging 10.5 runs per contest. The Seminoles have hit 85 doubles, 11 triples and 12 homers on the season. The discipline of the hitters has been remarkable with 139 walks. The pitching staff has been just as impressive with a 2.43 ERA. Hurlers have combined to fan 229 batters with 83 walks.

Poll Notes: Several teams have been red hot. East Carolina has won 13 straight, Oregon St. 11 in a row, Coastal Carolina 11 consecutive while Missouri has won 14 of its last 15 and Wichita St. 13 of 14. Four teams fell out of the poll this week in Southern California (1-3 last week), Nebraska (3-2), Auburn (0-3) and Virginia Military Institute (1-3). Teams entering the poll include Missouri (20-6 overall), Louisiana-Lafayette (20-5), Tulane (19-7) and Texas St. (19-8).

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
