College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (Feb. 26, 2007) VANDERBILT NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — Vanderbilt University (10-0) has been ranked No. 1 for the second straight week in the latest Collegiate Baseball newspaper NCAA Division I baseball poll. The Commodores are hitting .346 as a team with 12 homers and 24 doubles. The pitching staff has a 2.90 ERA with nearly a 4:1 strikeout to walk ratio (104 strikeouts and 24 walks). Second ranked Florida St. is off to a 13-0 start, their best start since 1975 when the Seminoles started 15-0 under then head coach Woody Woodward. FSU has collected double-digit hits in 11 straight games. Poll Notes: Several other teams have been red-hot. Texas A&M (11-1) has won 10 straight, while three teams have won seven consecutive (North Carolina, Wichita St. and Auburn). Rice and Virginia have captured six in a row. Three teams fell out of the top 30 this week in Oklahoma St. (1-2 last week), Tulane (1-2 last week) and Alabama (2-1 last week). Southern California (9-7), which knocked off Tulane two of three games during the past weekend, moved into the top 30 as did Baylor (7-4) and South Florida (9-1). The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season. (Top 30 Agate Follows)
