College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: Monday (April 10, 2006)

CAL. ST. FULLERTON NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Cal. St. Fullerton (26-8) has been ranked No. 1 for the first time this season in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s poll of NCAA Division I baseball.

The Titans, which won two of three at U.C. Irvine over the past weekend, moved from second to first this week after last week’s No. 1 ranked team South Carolina suffered three losses and dropped to ninth. The Gamecocks lost early in the week to Clemson and then lost two of three at home to Alabama.

Cal. St. Fullerton, which has a superb 2.54 team ERA, has won nine of its last 10 games and 17 of its last 19. Pitcher Wes Roemer continues to be absolutely sensational. He is 7-0 on the season and has only walked one
batter in 76 1/3 innings (269 batters). With 75 strikeouts on the season, his strikeout to walk ratio is an astounding 75:1. His ERA on the season is 1.53.

Poll Notes: Several teams have been red-hot. Rice has won 10 in a row and Notre Dame 12 straight with 22 wins in its last 23 games. The Fighting Irish are 8-1 in the Big East Conference. Defending national champion Texas has won 9 of its last 10 games. Southern California moved into the top 20 after sweeping a 3-game series against California. The Trojans sit in first place in the Pac-10 Conference with a 7-2 record. Four teams fell out of the poll this week in Wake Forest (1-4 record last week), Texas Tech. (1-3), Tennessee (1-3) and Winthrop (3-2).

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
