College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: Tuesday (June 7, 2005)

TULANE NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Tulane has been ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll for the ninth straight week.

The Green Wave (53-9) has won 33 of their last 37 games and were 3-0 last week as Tulane captured the New Orleans Regional with a 17-0 win over Southern, and two wins over Alabama, 10-4 and 7-4.

Very little movement took place in the top 30 as the top eight teams remained unchanged from a week ago. Thirteen of the top 14 teams in the poll last week moved on to Super Regional showdowns this week.

The only team not to move on was Arizona which was beaten by No. 2 ranked Cal. St. Fullerton, 6-3 in the championship game of the Fullerton, Calif. Regional.

Two teams fell out of the poll this week in North Carolina St. (1-2 record at the Lincoln, Neb. Regional) and Mississippi St. (2-2 record at Coral Gables Regional).

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
