College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Tuesday (June 28, 2005) TEXAS NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — Texas has been ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s final NCAA Division I baseball poll of the 2005 season after the Longhorns rolled through the College World Series with a perfect 5-0 record. Texas (56-16), which was ranked No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball pre-season poll, was at the top of the poll for seven straight weeks to start the season after rolling to a 21-1 record. The Longhorns then abruptly lost three straight to Baylor to start Big 12 Conference play and ultimately finished third in the Big 12 with a 16-10 record. Once regional play began, the Longhorns became the team many expected it to be prior to the season as Texas won the Austin, Tex. Regional over Arkansas and then won a tough Super Regional showdown against highly regarded Mississippi to qualify for the College World Series for the fourth straight year. Texas was so dominating at the College World Series that the Longhorns had a team ERA of 1.40 and only allowed seven earned runs in five games. The Longhorns also hit seven home runs over five games on offense. This marks the eighth time this season Texas has been ranked No. 1 by Collegiate Baseball. The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season. (Top 30 Agate Follows)
