College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: Monday (June 13, 2005)

TULANE NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Tulane has been ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll for the 10th straight week. The Green Wave (55-10) has won 35 of their last 40 games and posted a 2-1 record during their Super Regional win over Rice.

Nine of the top 10 teams from a week ago remained in the top 10 this week with the only newcomer being Arizona St. which stunned previously No. 2 ranked Cal. St. Fullerton in its Super Regional two games to one.

Tulane, Oregon St., Nebraska, Baylor, Texas, Florida, Tennessee and Arizona St. each won their respective Super Regionals and qualified for the College World Series in Omaha.

Poll Notes: Nebraska has won 10 straight games after sweeping its Super Regional over Miami, Fla. two games to none. It marks the third time in the last five years the Cornhuskers have qualified for the College World Series. Arizona St. may be the hottest of any team entering the College World Series after eliminating defending national champion Cal. St. Fullerton. The Sun Devils have now won nine of their last 10 games. Tennessee has won five straight games. Oregon St. qualified for its first College World Series since 1952 after defeating Southern California two of three games. It has been a long dry spell for Baylor as well with the Bears last appearing in the College World Series in 1978.

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
