College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (May 9, 2005) TULANE NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — Tulane has been ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll for the fifth straight week. The Green Wave (42-8) has won 22 of their last 25 games and were 4-0 last week. Over the past week, Tulane beat New Orleans and then swept a three-game series against Memphis. On the season, Tulane has hit 60 home runs in 50 games led by Micah Owings (14) and Brad Emaus (11). Poll Notes: Several teams have been red hot lately. College of Charleston has won nine straight, St. John’s 24 of its last 28 games and Oregon St. has won five in a row and eight of its last nine. Florida St. won four games last week with a victory at Florida and a three-game sweep at Maryland. Tennessee also had a big week as the Volunteers swept three games at home against South Carolina and now sit on top of the rugged Southeastern Conference with a 15-8 mark. Three teams fell out of the top 30 this week in South Carolina (four consecutive losses), Missouri (1-3) and Central Florida (1-2). The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season. (Top 30 Agate Follows)
