COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER
POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Tulane has been ranked No. 1
in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll for the
fourth straight week.
The Green Wave (38-8) has won 18 of their last
21 games. Over the past week, Tulane won two of three at South Florida and
blanked Nicholls St. earlier in the week, 3-0.
Poll Notes:

Fullerton has won seven straight contests and sports an 11-1 record in Big West
Conference action. Two other Big West teams have been superb in Long Beach St.
(five wins in a row) and Cal Poly SLO. After a 10-9 start to kick off the
season, the Mustangs have won 20 of their last 25 games to improve to 30-14 on
the season. Cal Poly has recently won six straight and nine of its last 10.
Tennessee knocked off previously No. 3 ranked Florida two of three games in
Gainesville, Fla. Georgia Tech. won two of three at Clemson as it marked the
first time since 1993 that the Yellow Jackets won a series at Clemson. Georgia
Tech. leads the Atlantic Coast Conference with an 18-6 mark and also leads the
ACC in batting (.341) and runs scored (10 per game).
Two other teams on a roll include Mississippi
which swept a 3-game series against rival Mississippi St. The Rebels have now
won five straight. Northwestern St. is running away with the Southland
Conference race with a 17-4 record and 34-15 overall mark. Two teams fell out of
the poll this week in Mississippi St. (1-4 record last week) and Coastal
Carolina (1-2).
The Collegiate
Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth
took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

"LOUISVILLE
SLUGGER'S" NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
 |
LHP J.R. Crowel, RHP Billy
Mohl, RHP Daniel Latham, Tulane:
This trio combined for a 3-0 no-hitter against Nicholls St. for Tulane and
came within a hit batsman of a perfect game. Crowel pitched a pair of perfect
innings before giving way to Mohl who struck out three in six innings of
no-hit baseball. Latham came on in the ninth and struck out the first two men
he faced before inducing a comebacker grounder to earn his seventh save of the
season. The trio threw just 98 pitches in the contest. |
 |
Heath Horsley and Justin
Carey, Morningside College: This duo threw back-to-back no-hitters in a
doubleheader sweep of Mount Marty College. Horsley fanned six batters to lead
the Mustangs to a 6-1 win. Carey struck out eight during a 7-0 win in the
nightcap. |
 |
3B Brandon Taylor,
Brigham Young: Taylor hit for the cycle twice in less than a week to tie
an NCAA record. He is only one of three players to have hit for the cycle
twice in a season. His first cycle came against Utah and his second against
Air Force. During the past week, he belted three home runs with 8 RBI. |
 |
RHP Ian Kennedy, Southern
California: Kennedy struck out 14 batters in eight scoreless innings
against Arizona in a 13-0 win. He allowed only three hits with three walks
against a team that was hitting .328. |
 |
P/1B Joe Savery, Rice:
Savery not only posted a career-high 15 strikeouts in eight innings of
work against Fresno St. in a 10-2 win. But as a hitter, he extended his
hitting streak to 16 games as he collected six hits with two doubles, one home
run and 4 RBIs. |
