TULANE NO. 1 IN
COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER
POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Tulane has been ranked No. 1
in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll for the
third straight week.
The Green Wave (35-7) has won 15 of their last
17 games. Over the past week, Tulane beat Louisiana St. and then defeated
Southern Mississippi two of three games.
The long ball has been a mainstay in Tulane’s
offense all season, but the opening game at Southern Mississippi featured five
home runs hit by the Green Wave in an 18-4 victory. Tulane has now belted 51
homers in 42 games.
Poll Notes:
Several teams have been red hot lately. Arizona
State has won six straight contests and has swept its last four home series
against Oklahoma, Wright State, Stanford and UCLA. The Sun Devils jumped from
22nd last week to 17th this week. Coastal Carolina (33-9) has won nine in a row.
Cal Poly SLO, which started the year 10-9, has won 12 of its last 14 games. The
Mustangs are currently 8-1 in the Big West Conference, tied with Cal. St.
Fullerton for first place. Louisiana St., which was struggling two weeks ago,
has turned it around and has now won five straight Southeastern Conference
games, including three straight at Arkansas over the past weekend.
The Collegiate
Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth
took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

"LOUISVILLE
SLUGGER'S" NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
 |
RHP Ricky Brooks, East
Carolina: Brooks tossed the first
nine inning no-hitter in Conference USA history as East Carolina beat Memphis,
3-0. He came within one batter of a perfect game as Adam Amar was the lone
Tiger to reach base on a strikeout wild pitch that got away from catcher Jake
Smith. Brooks, who struck out a career-high 14 batters, did not walk a batter
and struck out at least two batters in five different innings as he threw just
98 pitches on the day. It was the first East Carolina no-hitter since Foye
Minton kept North Carolina State hitless in an 8-0 win during the 1999 season.

OF Chuck Carter, Texas
A&M Corpus Christi: In four games last week, Carter belted 6 home runs,
scored 11 runs, recorded 12 RBIs and went 13-for-19 at the plate (.684
average). Carter, who homered at least once in all four games, tied a school
record with three home runs against Northern Colorado during a game as he went
4-for-5 with 7 RBI and 6 runs scored. |
