TULANE NO. 1 IN
COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER
POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Tulane has been ranked No. 1
in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll for the
second straight week.
The Green Wave (32-6) has won 12 of their last
13 games. Over the past week, Tulane beat Nicholls St. and beat Houston two of
three. One factor in the success for Tulane this season has been home runs with
the team hitting 45 so far. The Green Wave hit at least one home run in eight
consecutive games before Houston was able to keep the ball in the park during
Tulane’s final game last week, a 7-2 Green Wave win. Louisville Slugger
pre-season All-American Micah Owings paces the squad with 11 homers.
Poll Notes:
Cal. St. Fullerton has won 6 of its last 7 games
and has outscored opponents 73-16 over its last seven games as the team is
hitting .329. Georgia Tech. swept a 3-game series at home against Florida St.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 32-2 in their last 34 regular-season Atlantic
Coast Conference games, and Tech. has won 13 consecutive ACC series. The Yellow
Jackets have also won 19 of their last 20 ACC home games.
Arizona St. swept a 3-game series at home
against Stanford as an amazing streak came to an end. The Cardinal suffered
their first sweep in Pac-10 Conference play in 64 series dating back to 1997
when ASU also swept the Cardinal. Texas now has a 5-game winning streak.
However, the Longhorns are in fourth place in the Big 12 Conference with a 9-5
record. Central Florida is another team on a roll with 5 straight wins last
week.
The Collegiate
Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth
took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
