College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper

MIAMI NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Miami (Fla.) is No. 1 for the second straight week in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll.

The Hurricanes (47-11) breezed through their regional with three straight wins and have now won 10 straight games overall. Miami has stolen 131 bases in 174 attempts but has limited its opposition to only 28 in 42 attempts. The Hurricanes feature five players with 16 or more stolen bases. On offense, the Hurricanes have belted 76 homers in 58 games and are averaging 8.7 runs per game while the pitching staff has a 3.57 ERA.

Poll Notes: This week’s poll saw a dramatic change in the top 10 as four powerhouse teams were eliminated from the playoffs in their respective regionals. Stanford fell to Long Beach St. in their regional as did defending national champion Rice to Texas A&M. Notre Dame lost their regional to Arizona while Virginia finished second to Vanderbilt in their regional.

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S" NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

RHP Jason Windsor, Cal. St. Fullerton: Windsor pitched 15 innings in less than 48 hours and picked up a pair of wins to help the Titans to the regional championship at Fullerton, Calif. The Louisville Slugger All-American pitched his seven consecutive complete game in the opener against Minnesota, allowing just a run on five hits while striking out 11 — one shy of a career high. He came back on one day of rest to throw six shutout innings (allowing just two hits) in the Titans' regional-clinching win over Pepperdine.

1B Jim Burt, Miami (Fla.): Burt led Miami to its 11th straight NCAA regional championship by going 10-for-15 at the plate as he was named MVP in his regional. He collected two doubles, two home runs and knocked in 11 runs over three games. He recorded back-to-back 4-hit games in the regional as Miami blew out North Carolina St., 19-5 and Florida Atlantic, 19-6.
