College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (June 7, 2004) MIAMI NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — Miami (Fla.) is No. 1 for the second straight week in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll. The Hurricanes (47-11) breezed through their regional with three straight wins and have now won 10 straight games overall. Miami has stolen 131 bases in 174 attempts but has limited its opposition to only 28 in 42 attempts. The Hurricanes feature five players with 16 or more stolen bases. On offense, the Hurricanes have belted 76 homers in 58 games and are averaging 8.7 runs per game while the pitching staff has a 3.57 ERA. Poll Notes: This week’s poll saw a dramatic change in the top 10 as four powerhouse teams were eliminated from the playoffs in their respective regionals. Stanford fell to Long Beach St. in their regional as did defending national champion Rice to Texas A&M. Notre Dame lost their regional to Arizona while Virginia finished second to Vanderbilt in their regional. The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll.
